It's one thing to attack the conduits of piracy or trading but to attack individuals with a scare tactic (whether actual or otherwise) and then make poster children out of these file swappers to scare the rest of us out of the whole mess is going to far.
currently i purchase my mp3s online through the current services that are out there.. that's if the artist i like is available. but i use filesharing to get a better preview of what i buy before i buy it (itunes 30s preview does not warrant a bother.. some songs dont get good until long after that.. others rope you in and suck).. essentially this is the changing trend.. this is where music is going. people want a kazaa service and no doubt are willing to pay for it. I would *love* a flat monthly fee where i could download x amount of mp3s and have them expire or choose to purchase them and keep them permantely (sp). the RIAA needs to spear head this, or better yet the ARTISTS!, and stop wasting time and money. I personally am becoming sick of this crap and consider giving up corporate music entirely.
Anyhow, i'm sure this isnt the first such rant of it's kind, so to addum..
what you can do to hurt the riaa.. they must go and artists need to find a new conduit to their fans (salon has a great article by courtney love and how the artists are screwed).
1. Buy USED CDs.
2. Buy CDs through a club like columbia house (profits are much lower when customers buy from there)
3. BURN BURN BURN.. you can fit about 10 cds worth of mp3s on one cd.. share with your friends.. no risk of getting caught.
4. Waste network. private, secure.
