I share to much, I would like to clean up my share folder, so it would only be rare files.. help the network and all that. Mostly share asian movies, and old tv series.

I share around 1,750 files. but i can share more files too that wouldn't be interesting to much people but may find some use. so if i share those it would be around 3,850.

The total comes to like 35GB shared. out of 240gb of space i have

I just voted for the poll after i posted, i think the poll needs to be redone. 50+ files is the most? lol i know some people on these forums share just thousands of files, but whatever i'm sure most votes will be 50+

I connect at 28.8 because of the crappy telephone lines. My internet service disconnects me after 4 hours and I cannot get DSL in my area.. Draw your own conclusions.

I think this was more how many files do you share on your eMule/eDonkey, since the idea of these networks are, share less, but more unique files. Sharing 50 files (and we are talking big files here, not mp3’s) is quite a lot. On average a donkey user would like you to share 10-20 files of something special, instead of 4000mp3’s that everyone has.
Sharereactor releases I try to move out of my share folder fast, so that I can share MST3K episodes instead. (or other unique files) There are already 6000 sources for a new game, but for the MST3K episode I might be the only one sharing it. That way the fellow who wants to download it would not have to wait in line with all the people who also wanted the sharereactor release.

Agreed. I share over 500 files on eMule but only 10 of them are individual MP3 tracks . For music I share complete CDs ripped and compressed into an archive with playlist and EAC logfile. Also lots of movies and ISOs. But if you have something that people really want there is no harm in just sharing 5 or 10 files which are in high demand or rare and of a good size. If people want it, you have it, they can get it...then how are you a leecher?
I keep all the Sharereactor stuff shared but also if I have anything very unusual I mark it for "release" and let people get it easily until I'm no longer the only source. Somehow people sniff out the rare stuff and queue up for it...its like a ripple in a pond, more keep arriving...

Ironically, sharing more files on emule may not be that good because of the long queues that is generated.

It's better off if there are many clients sharing moderate amount of files rather than a few clients sharing a great amount of files.

Wait, maybe I got it. The solution is that everybody should share a lot of files. Am I wrong?

No, if you have 10gigs of porn, 4 gigs of mp3’s and 2 movies that are really rare, the fellow who wanted to download the rare movie, would have to wait in line with all the people who wanted porn and mp3’s.
Now, the logic is, that there will always be people sharing porn and mp3’s, but there will not always be people sharing those rare unique files. So to spread them faster, share only the rare files.
Lets say we have this one fellow sharing a live recording of some obscure Mongolian rock star, its one file, and he is on a 56k line. Now, if this fellow has 10 gigs of porn, and this one movie with the Mongolian rock star, every time he logs on, and you get in line to get a part from that file, you need to wait in line with all the people who want to download porn from him.
The moral is, porn and mp3’s you can always get, since not all people follow the philosophy of priority sharing, but if you become one of the few people who share only a few files, you will make a few people a lot more happy, then you would sharing what everyone else was sharing.

I havent got any statistics but my impression is that there are enough people on broadband on eMule 24/7 that you can get anything and everything eventually. So I am happy to share a lot of big files because I rarely switch off and if I do it isnt for long. If I have it and you want it you can get it if you are patient. All good things to those that wait.
If I had dial up I would just quit filesharing. Probably i would do a lot more work too.

I use K++ and always share between 25 and 40 files, mainly large movie files, and with that i think i already contributed my part to the whole network. People constantly download from me, and no less than i download from other ppl, so there's really no point in sharing 1000's of files. Unless their really small files.....like mp3's!!!

I connect at 24-26.4k for the same reason. The only difference is my isp does not disconnect, it's pretty stable. I've managed to collect about 5300 files. It's taken about 2 years to do this. It just takes a little patience.

Just because you cannot get DSL does not mean your stuck. You CAN get Satellite Internet, that is what I do since I cannot get DSL. And it's around the same price as some DSL providers, $49/month.

I share 20+ gigs, almost all over 500MB each. I figure it can never hurt to have another source for a large file. Someone might need a chunk of it here n there.

All the smaller files i share are the most expensive plugins & apps i can find. ... I generally only share about 10 or 15 mp3's.

700+ is a great number for mp3s. The last tiem i shared a mass of music was audiogalaxy. But since then ive gotten new hard drives & stored music elsewhere.

I think its cool if people all share different things, music, movies, iso's,programs, porn ect. , i may get a song or 2 from you, you may get a game or movie from me.

Id share more music but im keeping the majority of p2p space reserved for larger files where a faster download whill help that other person

...keep up the shares !
