I find that I usually get my download within a 24 to 42 hour time frame.
On average how long have you kept emule running?

Ehh..I turn my computer off at night
But if I added up the days it would be around 24-48 hours

I've been sitting on a few files off sharereactor and some other popular sites for over a month....of course it doesn't help that I'm behind a NAT and can't accept incoming connections.

I generally do three to four days. I can download about anything I want in that space, and by then I'm generally wanting to completely upset my system with something drastically different. I just can't leave my system alone for any longer period of time. I believe FreeBSD will be my next endeavor. After a new case and new hard-drive.
Out of curiosity, why do you need to reboot your computer everynight? Are you running Windows ME or something? (Most unstable OS ever in my opinion.)

I usually get my files within 12 hours. I set it to download around 8 or 9 at night, then in the morning at around 7 or 8 it completes. This is *most* of the time. However, other times, I've waiting up to hours upon hours, even 3 months once for a file.

no it really did. of course i didn't have edonkey running for a month straight. but it all equaled a month over about a 3-5 months span.

I leave mine running 24\7, but it usualy only takes about 7-8 hours form most things. But some, like others, have taken me days to months to get.

I Have left (insert every program that runs on that network) E-mule/E Donkey running for over a month and never got 1 G__DAMNED file from it, ever. Nothing ever completes.
Even when i was on router-less DSL.
Such a crap network with so much great content, a shame really.

I cannot find it anywhere on my pc. what a dumb program, lol. I even specified where I wanted to download it to. and i even tried the search box on the computer, still nothing.
But emule stayed on the whole time

Back when I first came to ZP I hated edonkey network. Could never get anything to complete etc.
Then I found I file I needed to have and tried and I got it and never turned back. I download over 60 complete cds a week.
I only download full albums and I am a music fanatic so if you cannot relate that's cool. I have a vast range of likes so I always find stuff I like and when I don't I download other stuff. lol
I got a que o20-30 at a time and each day 10 or so complete.
I do use other apps but not like I need ot want to very much.
I got it running 24/7
emule is not simple but its not impossible either. I can try and help someone if they really cannot get it going. Well at least try as I am amazed when I read that it doesn't work for some folks.

Do you think you could help someone behind a crappy router, with a ridiculously slow upload speed=(always have a bad share rating) and has already tried DMZ settings with said router??
If so, great. lol

Something is wrong.
Now you say you left it running for 1 month, meaning non-stop. Now, were these verified files or just ones you searched for?
<opinion>
Let me say this, these networks are best used in conjunction with hash links. If you plan to search, you'll have an even tougher time of it.
Also, when people say it takes patience, it takes patience. In my experiences, you do eventually get your file, and eMule (and I think eDonkey and overnet) makes sure your file isn't corrupt. Corrupted parts are either repaired or dropped all together.
But do be prepared to set it, and forget it for a long, long time.
Now I love fasttrack, and I still use it, but
A. There is a lot of stuff ed2k has that fasttrack doesn't seem to have (or maybe jumping supernodes 10 times and letting autosearchmore run for 17,000 years is not enough?). The content I seek, is their, so I've been using ed2k more often.
B. I've had *some* problems with movie files getting corrupted parts when D/Ling from fasttrack. Software (in ISO, BIN/CUE format), I don't even bother with fasttrack.
</opinion>
All in all, Dogster is still the best though. Why, just the other day I obtained Paint Shop Pro 11 using Dogster's special time travel technology!
EDIT: Changed a period to a question mark, but due to the fact that the edit page takes about 65 million years to load........ah...........you know the rest.

They were both ones i searched for and hashed links. But it is irrelevant as both files had thousands upon thousands of sources.
See, i cannot just let it run and run, as it cripples my internet to the point where i cannot do anything, even surf the web.
I can alleviate that somewhat by setting my upload to a max of 10K a second (i only have 15-16K up) But then i never get a good share rating. That coupled with my router causing me to have a Low ID. i just don't think it is worth the trouble, unless someone can prove me otherwise.

I use the latest version of edonkey and have had nothing but problems. My computer freezes or the program itself freezes. Everything I am trying to download is almost always solid blue but never wants to complete. I used to be able to download at 100k+ on a regular basis before I switched and now it's under 15k being on 24/7 inbetween restarts form freezing. Anyone have ideas on how to tweak edonkey, cause I've used it for forever but this latest version is killing me and you can't switch back. Many thanks to anyone with ideas.:mellow

And did any of these sources have a full source? I have seen files with 1300 sources on it, but not one complete. Right there might be your problem.

Personally I perfer to use emule.
You know you can click on the bar with the mouse and press the right arrow key to see the number of sources that you are downloading from.

Ok Psilaxs, I have the same router and can help you config. First, get the emule mod Athlazan from here (http://www.emule-project.net/board/index.php?showtopic=22698&st=0) . Get the alpha.3 version.
Next, access your router, usally by 192.168.1.1
Disable all that DMZ crap and stuff, you don't need it. Another thing you need to disable is the DHCP. The DHCP makes it where the router automatically assigns a random IP to each computer on the network. This is what screws emule up.
After you disable DHCP, you must then go into your Windows network settings. Right click on the network and then click on Internet Protocol and click Configure (or properties depending on what OS you are using.)
Instead of "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically" click on "use the following...". For IP address, use 192.168.1.2 (and then on each other computer connected use 192.168.1.3 and keep increasing). For subnet mask, use 255.255.255.0. For default gateway use 192.168.1.1
For Preferred DNS server, first, you have to go back to router config (192.168.1.1) and click on 'status' tab. On that page it will list three DNS addresses. Use the first address as the Preferred in Windows, and the second as the Alternate.
Click apply and all that other junk in windows and close out the network boxes. Go back to the router config and click on advanced and then port fowarding. In the box, type in 4662 through 4672 and check both port protocol boxes, and then on the address to foward it to, type in 2 in the last box. Click apply, and you're done. It will now work.
Then go to http://ed2k.2x4u.de/index.html and click on "add to emule" of the best servers.

Holyshit man! LOL thanks, i will definately try this later on today.
I have already tried a lot of what you said, but a couple i haven't, so, i will just go through the entire process of what you posted, and i hope it will work (I also hope it will improve performance on other filesharing networks as well) Since i switched to cable, and have to use a router if i want more then one PC on the network to have internet access, thus my filesharing has gone to shit.
Thanks again man, i will definately try this out later when my download on kazaa finishes. lol ;)

I have an AMD 1800+, linksys ethernet, and DSL internet how can i tweak it to run better/faster?

Hopefully it will work for you man. Any other questions just ask. Oh, and yes, all the other programs that you use that use particular ports like winmx, blubster, whatever have to have their ports fowarded as well.

First, I would get rid of overnet. Get emule. And if you have linksys router, follow the instructions I gave above. You can also check out a FAQ here (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=10423) . And, just to let you know, the whole emule/edonkey network is usally slow. Yes, you can download fast, but usually it downloads extremely slow. So just give it time and patience. You will be rewarded with excellent quality stuff.

I use eMule.
I only switch off if I have to add/remove hardware or a new app needs a restart.
If you only switch on when you want something it will never be quick for you. You have a credit rating according to how much you upload/how many clients you have uploaded to. If you dont want to d/l just leave emule on and uploading and when you restart eMule next time your rating will be better and you will get more access and more speed.
If you are the kind of person who is constantly checking the d/l speeds etc you will go mad! Just load up your choices from a verifieds site and let the donkey do the work. Load a lot! And every day you will have some new music CDs, games, movies.....just don't switch off.

I guess i am going to have to accept that.
But to me this defeats the purpose of broadband, i want fire and forget filesharing where i can get what i want without having to worry it will take days.
Not select, queue wait.....wait.......wait....get 300killobytes......wait 4 more hours for the next 20 meg chunk and so on and so forth.

Don't worry! I get speeds fast. Not as fast as Kazaa or newsgroups, but I still get fast. I started downloading a huge file last night around 8 PM. It's 1.85 gigs. This morning at 6:30, it was half way done. It should be done by tonight. So don't worry, once you get all the bugs worked out, it's great.
Just let me know if the router configuring works for you. Hopefully, it will. It worked for me. If it doesn't (which I don't know why it wouldn't), I got a couple other things up my sleave which should work.

Having boardband and slow speeds is not really a waste.
When I was on 56k dial-up my connection was constantly being disconnected.
I couldn't surf the web for one hour before my ISP hung up and I had to redial again.
With boardband I can stay connected 24/7.

eMule is fire and forget filesharing. By the time it arrives you forgot why you ordered it! Only joking....
Once you get your head around it you can relax. The reason i said load up a lot of requests is because some will be reasonably fast, some not. But keep the donkey working and soon you will have big big files completing every day with no real input from yourself other than clicking a verifieds link or making a search.
Here's my theory and its based on experience, mine and others: It doesn't matter how fast the file arrives if its the wrong damn file. It doesn't matter how fast the file arrives if it is corrupted. It's quicker to download a clean genuine file at 10KBps and get it down first time than it is to download 4 fake movies at 64 KBps and then have to delete them and start over. In fact its better to have several files d/l at a medium or slow rate and be perfect than to invest all your bandwidth in one or two Kazaa/WinMX gambles. Ultimately the slow way is actually quicker!
But like I said if you are the kind of person who has to keep checking the d/l speed constantly you will go nuts! It varies wildly. (I know I am going nuts cos of this lol). It's a change of mindset from the get it now superfast approach of K Lite to the slowly but surely approach of eMule so it does take a little adjusting to mentally. But if you can leave your machine on 24/7 you will be rewarded for your patience just like in the fairy tales! It will seem like nothing happens for a few days and then the files start arriving, each perfect and complete, and they never have to stop.

I shut down occasionally for reasons already stated. But also I was thinking how the credit file shown in the log updates whenever you restart the app. Or is the credit rating constantly updating in real time and you only see the change by restarting and refreshing the log file? That is to say, is there any case for occasionally restarting on this basis?

LOL, thanks for the ecouragement, I do understand the idea behind E-mule, but for me, it has always been fastr to download a movie or whatever on kazaa, and even if it is the wrong one, i can download 5 movies or more in the time it takes to get 1 from e mule.
But since switching to cable and having a router, even kazaa is slow for me now. so i might as well go with what i know will give correct files the first time.
I have always wanted e mule to work for me, so much content it boggles my mind.
Hopefully tonight i can finally put PiRaNeTuS much appreciated ( :tilted ) help to use.
