Okay, I'm sure most of you have seen UTC's new look (http://www.unitethecows.com). Quite frankly, I like it a lot! Props to them!

But now, on to the main reason for this post...

Do you think ZP should go for a new look? I've been in several discussions about this, and I thought I'd bring it to the forums!

What do you think?

No.

I fear change.

Why not, just don't make it too "flashy".

yea, we need a new look. it's just... too bland.

php can do anything, and... its not doing much here.

but, we might hafta wait awhile, bc of the upgrades (i assume they are still tinkering with the servers bc everytime i 'search' for posts, all the views say 0...)

Why not? Zeropaid could use a fresh new look. Plus I know there are ways to streamline the interface in some cases, make things less confusing and more user-friendly. More options without being overwhelming as well.

there are some things on the front page that could use some revision (AKA the New Users Tutorial (http://www.zeropaid.com/php/newuser.php) which has broken links)

A little flash is good as long as it is not at the expence of slowing down the webpages. I hate pages that takes forever to download or scroll down at a crawl jut becasue of some fancy animation going on.

it doesn't really matter in the long run.
it might be nice if the option was there to switch to another theme for those who wish for a change.
there r boards with about 4 or 5 themes to choose from, maybe more......i haven't been to them all...lol.
but would that take up too much space?
or slow things down too much as wolfie has said?

Anything is a very strong word.

As to the UTC thing, I think you may find that I'll be here less and less, while being there more and more. I've made friends with a lot of the old herd over at P2P Forums, and this site is becoming quite "n00bish". ZP has come under a lot of criticism, I have always defended it. However, I feel it has caught up with me in a way. I really like all of the regulars here, and I suggest you come and spend some time over at UTC.

I'll be spending less and less time on the net from now on anyway, so don't take this as an insult any of you!

i didn't notice it at first glance, but UTC is doing the multiple theme thing.

Flash this site and I WILL fucking leave. You should see my emails to tvguide.com.

Going for a new look is cool, going for a new look because someone else did it, not cool.

Really? You promise?! *PM's Jorge 400 times with the same crappy MS Paint looking SWF file*

Personally UTC looks like shit in the forums department..while it looks pretty it's annoying to use...the 'blocks' really drove me nuts. Just put one fuggin' frame around a thread and leave it at that! It drove me bonkers seeing that border around every god damn post....

On a uppy note...at least they stopped forcing you to sign up to download attachments...

Changing our look just to show UTC up is stupid. The theme we have now is simple, clean, and professional.

Now, maybe a new logo could help us out a bit. Who knows.

No, change will not be good in my opinion, i like the way ZP looks and how the sites atmosphere is... thats the only reason I come here I dont like any other forums except the K-Lite forums... because ZP and K-Lite are the most simplest with good atmosphere forums...

While I think ZP might be cool with new themes or something, the interface as it is now is the simplest I've seen so far. Its clean, not heavy on cheezy graphics, high contrast, the colors match good, easy navigation, etc.

I think we need to work on whats under the skin of this site though, like cpu said, the new user guide SUCKS, the news posting guide needs major help also.

I'm sure when this site was new, it worked great, and was up to date, now its just in need of a major overhaul. I have some ideas for the news posting that I should PM jorge with. I think maybe if we could just get a few people together, to take the info in its current format, and update it, then send it to jorge, the site would be fine.

I think a new look for the current graphics would be nice. You know, something a little 3D (not a flashing spinning cube, just maybe the current logos with some shadowing & depth). That wouldn't slow down the pages either.

so many people abuse flash.

While I think the layout of zeropaid is great right now and I have no complaints, I think it would be worthwhile to consider some modifications or possibly alternate themes like UTC as done.
As far as I am concerned , change is part of life. It comes whether you want it to or not , so you may as well embrace it and try something different. You never know unless you try if something will work. I am always trying out new things and new programs on my computer and while not everything works, I learn a lot in the process and enjoy the variety that is available.
I say go for it Zeropaid.

hmm, one thing i think we could change...

is you know how some people have really wide sigs...

right now im thinking of powerman572.

just for kicks, i set my resolution to 800x600, and his sig forces the edge of the post out.

i dont know if that makes any sense... try it and see.

anyway, maybe we should find a way to "lock" the post to only be as wide as your current window?

After browsing the "new" UTC for a day or two, I have come to realize that the layout is TERRIBLE. Sure the beginning page has some neat flash effects (which btw, are only for one theme... the others aren't nearly as cool. also, it is possible to create the same or similar effects from all pages withOUT using flash), but the forums are fucking UGLY as hell. It is painful to read threads as every post, even the ones with 2 words, have a fucking massive area. Everything about it just bothers the hell out of me. Until they offer a "plain" theme or something to that degree, I won't go back.

As far as ZP. I do kinda want some different themes to choose from. That added refresher may be just what some of us need. (though the current design is excellent.)

Isus, there was a thread about sigs a week ago or so, it died because we couldn't agree on anything, and not many people replied to it.

Just because another site does something doesnt mean that we have to have something similar every time.

It always seems that many different people ahve pushed to copy or do something similar that what is done on other sites.

innovation not imitation.

Alot of the ideas that were added here because other sites did them havent done well at all.

Themes IMHO arent that great anyways. Window dressing isnt really important.

It dont bother me as well I'd prefer to have the site a bit darker in color myself but its good like it is as well if they change it I just hope they dont go with something brighter then the semi shaded lavender color that we see so far.

And I aint too big on the flash thing as well... There nice for presentations but websites ummm... Not too cool.

What do you think?I don't think it needs to be changed, but since it already has been changed. :(

UTC's site is a perfect example of how to do it right and to help you easily see what is wrong with the new ZP look.

UTC - off-white to blue, right amount of contrast.
ZP - white to black, way too much contrast.

UTC - one blue throught the site.
ZP - new blue does not match, go with the old blue

UTC - uniform image and font style throught the site
ZP - two or more clashing styles
