Red Line

I wonder if any 1 can help. It's only stupid really, but annoying. I've recently aquired a red line down the left hand side of my screen, i've tried fiddling with my screen controls, with no joy. Wondered if it might be the cause of some sort of spyware or virus? (although I have run norton and ad-aware)? Cheers Tipsterno1

Firstly, figure out whether the red line comes only after windows loads, or when you boot the computer. If the line only shows up at windows, then you know its not a hardware problem. Its a bigger problem if latter is the case, then there's probably something wrong with the monitor hardware, if changing controls isnt working. Try to "Degauss" the monitor if it has this function. It could be caused by devices near your computer which create magnetic fields (such as electric pencil sharpeners, stereos, ...) in which case moving them away will clear up the line. Thats as much as I know, hope this helps.

hit the print screen key, and paste into mspaint...

if the red line is in the picture, it's a software thing...

if it's not, it's a hardware thing.
