View Full Version : RIAA p2p usernames

I have noticed that when the RIAA creates an account to share fake files they almost always put a number at the end of their user name. Now on kazaalite most people don't put a number at the end of their name because more than one person can have the same user id so it is unecessarry (spelling ?). So if you see a file and all of the people that have it have a number at the end of their username the file is probably a fake.

i hope that you wil find this information useful

p.s. i have only really noticed this with unreleased mp3's. If this RIAA practice is not as common as i suspect then i appologize for creating this thread and wasting your time.

I hadn't noticed it.

Some people could use 247 at the end of their name though as three of my friends do for their email accounts.

The splling is unnecessary I believe.

I wander if other people had noticed this too?

yeah i know that a lot of ppl do use numbers at the end but if everyone in the entire list of people with the file has a number you should probably be suspicious

Want my opinion? User name doesn't matter. Who cares if everybody thats hosting the file has a number. If everybody had the letter E somewhere in their username, would you not download that also?

The most common letter used in the English language!

Yeah, I don't see how a number at the end really matters, they can be anyone, anywhere, but thanx for the attempt at warning everyone

i scanned them and i got this service provider: Performance Systems International inc or PSI. They offer High speed connections like T1 and T3. Apparently MCA is using their service to flood Kazaa with fake mp3s.

they must be using a program to create usernames that combines word from a word bank and sticks a number on the end.

I think this is bogus. I have always had numbers after my s/n. The only time I can remember when I didn't was when I was on Napster. This is a bogus statistic I believe.

Actually I have been running across alot of bogus mp3s on kazaa lately. The song would play and then about 10 seconds in it starts to make a loud, screeching noise. I don't know if it's just misfortune or the fact that the RIAA could be planting bogus mp3s on the fasttrack network.

Yeah same here, I don't use kazaa anymore for this exact reason. fake files everywhere. I use Blubster now. I know there are fake files because i downloaded one like a really long time ago, and since then i haven't got one. so until then, i will continue to use blubster.

Most of the RIAA companies hire other companies to do they scanning. So if your looking for the "RIAA" or "MPAA" then youll just be on a wild goose chase.

Since they also look just like any other user the chances of your correctly identifing them is very slim.

Well if the RIAA is sharing bogus files on kazaa, then there sharing bogus files. I have my bogus file filter on, and i hope i don't sued, because i don't have good luck often.

Judging from the responses Ken I don't think anybody took his theory seriously. Relax son.

You'd think with 3-4 million users, the chances of legitimate usernames with a number at the end would be substantially high.

It sucks i know that's what they do, The most common fake is RNS NAMED FILES. 13 seconds of the song, 20-30 of scratching then the rest of the song. The best way to combat it is to delete a fake, i notice some people keep dl until they get a non fake but they don't delte the fakes. Delete the Fakes, and we can root out. In the mean time i noticed wma files are typically authentic, they have so far only attacked .mp3 files.

That doesn't hold water, my buddy shares 160 gigs of music and he's got a number at the end of his user name. :goodjob
