Here i some ideas for a great program: We need something like Direct Connect but we need other programs like DC team up and put there servers together. Another a great download accelerator ould be attatched to the download. This would be even better someone made a program that had all of the file sharing programs ever made put together it would have at least billions of files. It would be like a super program!:cross

okay, i'll start with the SUPER-DUPER-HYBRID-CLIENT....

swapciety is supposedly doing it, and shareaza is basically doing it.

as for the SUPER-DC

that would basically be napster, and we all know what happened to napster...

the download-accelerator: that my friend, is multisourcing. it's already in most p2p apps.

www.swapciety.com

it's a single developer, and he's been supposedly working for a long time.

i don't think it will ever come out.

Tell me about it! I tried to get it working, but it simply refuses to "Connect to Core", whatever the hell that means.

i also know tat it needs a server to connect to.....duh

n as for some ideas, the prog should provide ip proxy so tat no one knows the source or destination of the data, but tis is slow as hell, so some other way-out of makin the user ips invisible.
another which i thnk is the prog should u/l n d/l at the same time as in the case of bittorrent(read tis somewhre) as tis utilizes the bandwidth efficiently n even if bittorrent doesnt supports tis, tis simoultaneous u/l,d/l can be done.
n finally it should have strict hashing so as to minimise corruption.

here's how to make the best p2p program:

- create an entirely new, entirely efficient network protocol... make it good for both modem users and broadband users.
- make sure you have multisource dl's, so they are hella fast.
- make it anonymous, and make sure that the users are protected (can't tell how many files a user is sharing, or who you are dl'ing a file from)
- make sure that leeches learn to share, i.e.: limit functionality or somethin
- wrap it up in a pretty gui.

hmm, i think that's everything.

hmm, i think that's everything. Good post. Some comments:

Scratch the pretty GUI thing. Sure, make it standard coolness, but nothing above that. Streamlined interface, not confusing, options abound for the advanced users.

Serverless, or make the servers anonymous, possibly by using a set number, set range, or completely random number of clients as servers. In any case, this protocol needs to be anti-RIAA and resistant to shutdowns.

Linking system, of course. Gotta have the verified links. Ideally, the protocol would somehow filter out fake/bad/corrupt search results.

I suppose you'd need some sort of messaging/chat system so you could directly "connect" to a pal and DL his/her files. This would also somehow be anonymous.

Ahh . . . isn't it nice to dream? Perhaps someday.

GnuNet will be that program.

So far GNUnets web of trust idea is the best yet.,

to me, gnunet sounds like a slightly easier-to-use freenet.

im probably mistaken, but then again, i don't really care, bc in the past 5 or so years, no p2p has been perfect. and i doubt this one will be the big winner too.

whatever floats your boat though.

GNUnet is more secure than freenet, and more for filesharing.

Freenet is not for file sharing, its for websites.

what about 6/4 system?

http://www.hacktivismo.com/ dev groups HP
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sixfour/ for p2p

Well, I think the perfect p2p network should be based on a new protocol that is efficient but I actually would like to to be good for only broadband users (cuz I have broadband, lol).

I it should be similar to kazaa and other p2p apps where you can search the network and download but if it is possible I would like to be able to reach more users at one time than kazaa can do. At the same time I would like the program to be like DC where you can chat and ask for files.
