Alright, I posted a message a while ago explaining my distress about the new version and how slow it is. I never had to tweak with the other one but it seems i will have to with 3.22.

I've messed with every setting I know how to. I've messed with:
1. Primary and Secondary Connections
2. Bandwith Throttle Interval Process
3. Limiting Outgoing Bandwith
4. WinMX Peer Network

I'm at a total loss because I see no change in download speed when I change these variables. Could someone please maybe explain to me what these things do and any possible combinations of things to try to increase productivity. I have a cable modem and am used to getting speeds of 60 k/s and more with the older version. Now all I get is 1 k/s, if i'm lucky, even with all of the multiple downloads adding together.

I would appreciate any type of help.

Thank You!

no offense, but make sure you know what to look at, cuz it seems to me that canadian ppl can't add. so if u look at the title bar or the main line of a download, stop.

instead, use the bandwidth window, or add all the numbers really fast. if u have 3 people u r downloading one file from, it can say 20kb/s under each of them, but still only show a few kb/s under the main line.

i don't know.

I'm not Canadian, so that's not the problem, nor do I believe that holds any relevence in this matter. The reason I know that that's not happening is because it takes me 10 and 12 hours just to download one song at 6 mb. I'm not so dumb as to miss something as huge as that, No Offense.

Yeah I hgad same probems your mentioning.
First stick with secondary connection. Limit your uploads to 2 or 3 and give them about 10-12kbits. No you see where it says where to set your download limit. even if you do not check it I noticed it uses those numbers anyway, so change it to a very high number and don't even bother to check it.

I have a suspician that you probably have good tast in music, that means you get less sources and often that is the main reason you will get slower connections etc.
Same happens to me. I look for more obscure stuff and when I ever look for very popular stuff I often download extremely fast.

the settings will work, so it will take a few sessions I am sure and you will notice your getting all that you can.

I used to use primary connection but that was crawling and I made the switch and now I get decent speeds.

good luck

Why not go back to one of the older versions like 2.6 which rocks!

Thanks for all the comments.

I tried using the comments made about v3.22 and make the changes necessary and still got the same results as before. So that didn't work. Also, I now have been using v2.6, but now I'm only getting 2 k/s as my max. It seems to be a lot more stable than v3.22, but I've noticed that there aren't a whole lot of files to choose from.

I guess I still need some help.

your isp may b blocking the ports winmx is using. blocking does not completely stop your access, just makes it so damn slow you will likely give up.
But you can change the port settings.
Go and add a number 1 before your port settings and see what happens.
Let us know if it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't believe it had any effect. If I did it correct, this is what I did. There were two places that had port numbers. One of them was #6699 and I changed it to #16699, and the other was #6257 and I changed it to #16257. If this is what you wanted me to do it did not work on either a primary or secondary connection. Even with the numbers there I still am getting the slow, slow connection speeds.

Oh well, if anybody else has any suggestions they are always welcome and much appreciated.

Thanks

I have had a lot of trouble using WinMX 3.0- to-3.22, the beta versions worked fine but ever since they got out of beta I have had problems!

When I try to run a primary connection with my cable modem I get a good connection, but the program slows down to being unusable, sometimes it just locks up and I have to give the "3 Finger Salute" to get out of it. And I have a Athlon 1300 with 516k memory and Windows 98 SE, and other p2p programs work fine.

When I use a secondary connection it takes a long time to get a search request back and sometimes it cuts my uploads to other users off. Other times the searches quit working and I have to restart the program to get any response. I have played around with the ports - I found by accident that ports 20004 TCP and 20006 UDP work pretty good and these also work for 2.6. Also setting Zone Alarm to "Medium" in the securtiy settings helps.

BTW I could run a primary connection on Win 2.6 just fine with no slowdown problems. I hope they keep working on WinMX 3.22 - its a great program and I enjoy the chat feature but its still very buggy and unreliable.:mellow I will keep using 2.6 for now.

Perhaps WinMX should "read between the lines" everytime you have to do this.
