Is Windows Media Player 9 better than Version 7.2?

I heard that Windows Media Player 9 is being Released on Sept. 4

Should upgrade to it or not?

found @ Microsoft's Web site @ http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.asp

I would recommend staying with 7.2 because Microsoft is including DRM (Digital Rights Management) with the release. Basically, it's gonna restrict what you do and how you do it.

I think it would be best to avoid and uninstall WMP 7 or newer, and just go with 6.4.

IN other words when the new 9 player ships it will not be enacting a new DRM install on your machine.

We have tested the 9 player/encoder and for users, the 9 players offers some cool new features like ripping, 5.1 channel WMA Pro audio support and others.

The 6.4 players is cool but using it with DRM 7.1+ , you might as well use the 7 player since you can skin the shit out of it and make it do what you want to.

i downloaded the leaked version of Windows Media Player 9. well, it's an alpha, not even a beta so don't expect a lot and if you install it, it replaces your current windows media player installation. the cool feature is VBR WMA which is pretty sweet but the player can't even play them...

There are some components of that player which will render your WMP 7 useless if you use the AUTO UPDATE from Microsoft which keeps your system secure and up to date.

Yes there are some cool VBR WMA functions which have been in the hands of Corona beta team. The coolest we have seen is the 5.1 Channel Windows Media Audio PRO which has some GREAT translators for THX and Dolby like sound.

Like I said be aware of loading that 9 player. You MUST have a special 2600 [Believe it or not Build from MS to run it. File attached with Screen Cap from Coronoa/WMT9 Dev machine here in the lab.

To be honest, as best I know you are hosed.

The player people are getting and installing is not an official product and for those out there grabbing thinking they are getting over or ahead, they're really just getting a headache.

From best I can tell the Gold Beta is out in a month. I am in Redmond on Thursday with the WMP devel guys and will ask them for you.

Seems like they would want to post a better Beta so people like you can give them feedback.
