I check my AOL email thru aim. My problem is is that when I'm checking my e-mail, when I click on a message sent to me....the message doesn't come up...just blank.
I'm thinking its my sygate firewall.....although I have AIM enabled. I've added peerguardians list to my "advanced rules" blocked list.....I know there are some that mess up AIM and tried to avoid them.
In sygate I've tried to "allow all" and removed the checkmarks from all my "advanced rules" blocked list...still unable to view my mail.
Help would be appreciated.

Yes....I just tried shutting Sygate completely off..... with the same results.....I click on my e-mail....screen comes up, but the message doesn't.
This reminds me of problems I've had with Zonealarm.
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling AIM.....no luck.

If it still doesn't work after sygate is off. Then sygate probably isn't causing the problem.

Hi Ne007
Based on the experiences I have had with both firewalls and anti-virus programs, I highly doubt that Sygate is interfering with your E-Mail . I have had Sygate for several months and it has never interfered in the slightest with my E-Mail. I checked allow it once and that was the end of it. Even with zone alarm which I used previously , it never interfered with my E-Mail.
Most likely the problem is one of two things:
1. The Anti-virus program you use.
2. A virus you picked up on the internet
What anti- virus program do you use? Many of them including PC-Cillin that I used previously do interfere with my E-Mail .One way you can check this is to go to Outlook Express- Tools- Accounts .
Check the account you are using and select properties. Check the settings listed under both general and servers . If either setting has been changed form that set when you obtained your internet connection that it most likely the cause of your problem .
ie if your ISP is acableco , then settings for name of server, incoming mail and outgoing mail should all be acable co. Many virus programs change these settings so all E-Mail flows through their virus checker first and this may interfere with your ability to view your E-Mail. I have had these problems in the past.
If that doesn't work, most probably there is a virus on your system and the best bet is to run a virus scan to detect it or get rid of the most recent software you installed .If the problem just started after you installed a new program, that may be the source of the problem. Good luck.

I use Norton 2003. I'm doing a full system scan right now.
In AIM...ALL mail sent to me cannot be open.
Brycen257, I'll try to follow your steps in outlook express tomorrow...it's getting late and I had trouble following your steps, maybe we have different versions.

You do not have the port opened or allowed to be opened that uses AIM. All you have to do is go to your preferences and look for something that lets you enable the port for AIM. Look for that port in the connection area of AIM prefrences and set it to allow to be opened.

try reinstalling aim! maybe there is an error w/ it or sumthin! or maybe just try checking your mail through www.aol.com or through aol itself
