I've dl'd a few files w/ RMVB & AVI extensions. The AVI file states "DVDRip.XVID" as part of its file name. I've tried Windows Media Player, Real Player, Vidomi, BS Player (is that short for Bullshit Player?), & a few others. All I've got are error messages. I've also tried tons of codecs that haven't done a thing. Anybody got any tips? I'm beginning to think these are all just fake files...

Well, the AVI is encoded using the Xvid codec, so you need that. If you already have it installed and you are getting error messages, you may need to uninstall/reinstall.
As for the RMVB, Real Player plays that file. I usually rename the RMVB file to RM (for no particular reason except i'm too lazy to bother to associate RMVB with Real Player).

if all else fails, uninstall all the codecs you've installed, and install the K-Lite Codec Pack (http://www.k-lite.tk).

If you've had green blurryness or other lame shit with the latest XVID rips try this..
Get hold of ffdshow-20030523.exe
It's 9 months more recent than the one in the current Nimo Codecs pack.
A lot of people who've been having probs with the Nimo codec packs have it purely because of that.
Get and install ffdshow-20030523.exe and you should be fine with the latest XVID codecs.

I'm with Method on this one.
The XviD/DivX codecs are best used with FFDShow. It is by far the fastest and most versatile playback solution I've been able to find.
