deny access to exe or dll

Alright, my cousin uses my dad's computer, and while we were out of town, she crapped it up with (Kazaa, Morpheus, spyware, adware, trojans) so he totally re-formatted and all to clean it out for good.

We give her normal access, not Admin access to that computer, but we would like either a freeware or shareware program that will automatically deny access to certain exe files and dll files.

Is there a such program?

Well, you can start by using the Immunize function in Spybot S&D. It 170 something ActiveX programs such as gator in IE, it also blocks some other downloads, and can lock your homepage in IE

Overall, I'd recommend a Spybot scan every week, it can't hurt, and it might help.

Hmm...I remember in Windows NT 4.0 that you can deny access to file installations.

I think you can set the files as read only for an account.

Though an easier way is to tell your cousin not to install any programs without asking first.

Yeh, um, except she did it on our computer, on our network, with our IP address. So we ALL would get sued.

A usefull type of program to help in these circumstances are trojan traps, or a 'sanbox' as they are known. Any .exe files that are downloaded are automaticaly run in the sandbox program, which then studies what the .exe does and determines whether it is harmful to your system in any way.

I used to know of a freeware sandbox, but that was a couple of years back. I know Tiny make a trojan trap, but it's not free.

Log in as admin, right click on what you want to deny access to, go to security, add the user, go down to the check boxes, and deny access for user(s) (groups)

You got it right 2 times after it, but just so people aren't confused, you may want to edit it to a "sandbox" with a "d"

but since you personally didn't use kazaa or otherwise, you confront her, say "you used kazaa and got me sued." and then leave her with the bill. and if she refuses to pay, call up judge judy or somebody.

this is especially good if you don't like this certain cousin a whole helluva lot.
