After being fed up with trying to get anything of quality from KaZaA concerning games, I decided to give news groups a try.
I went to my ISP's website obtained the proper info, and was shocked to see they carry about every newsgroup on the face of the earth, and the speeds are insanely fast.
I think the retention may not be the hottest because there were a lot of missing part files but i figure if i keep up on it i should be ok.
Now, my qustion is about newsreaders, which one is the easiest to use and set up?
I am VERY new to this (infact, i am only 3 hours new to this lol)
So, any tips and guidelines for using newsgroups/news readers would be greatly appreciated.

I use xnews, because you don't have to install anything, you just unzip, and its freeware, but if you use it, the important thing is to go to your display settings and turn off expand threads by default. I didn't do it the first time and got so frustrated I quit for a week before finding out that turning it off makes all the difference. it may be a bit hard to use at first, but you'll get used to it in no time.
you can use outlook for newsgroups, but it isn't really suited for the task, I mean its good for reading, but not for downloading binaries.
I hear newsbin is also good, you might want to give that a try.

I have a related question.....so I thought I would just post in this thread ;)
I went to my ISP's news server today.......as expected, they asked for my password......but they did it 3 times, and I typed it in correctly each time......But, It said something to the extent of I didn't have proper authorization. I searched via their Google engine to find any possible solutions, but came up empty-handed.
Now, I am not the master account.....Is this why I may not be able to use it? My father is the master account, and I guess you can call mine a secondary account of sorts.....Thanks. If it helps, my ISP is Earthlink.
BTW, Psilaxs ---------> http://www.k7v.com/nonags/newsr.html
I found that link to be relevant and I've heard Xnews is good myself. I heard it's stable and boasts more than enough features/options.......You can always give Outlook a try
Peace
EDIT: Damn you Caitlyn, you stole the words right out of my mouth......haha JK.......Anywho, you provided the answer as I was posting, but whatever.

That's what i am using right now, and unchecked the options you stated (I may be new, but i know enough NOT to expand threads lol)
Thanks for the help, i really appreciate it Caitlyn :)

Don't forget a program for handling PAR files since you have missing parts.

@Napho, I made sure i got those also ;)
Now, for my noob question (you all knew it was coming sooner or later)
How do i download? i found a file that i want (A SVCD)
I am using X News, what do i do to download these binary files?
*edit* Nevermind, I figured it out lol
I'm loving this news group thing, coming in at 130K a second.
To anyone reading this who was like me at one time, and thought it is too complex, involved, time consuming and not easy enough. Just take the time to learn this, it isn't that hard and the resources available on news groups is amazing.

GrabIt is a good program that will automatically "grab" the larger files from the newsgroups and put them together for you.

If you want to upload large files to the groups...

Too bad I don't have access to my ISP's newsgroups. Just give 'em a call. They should give you the info. Mine did. All you need is the news server name. example: news.meer.net

Well, I just use Agent. It's funny, cause I just signed up for newsgroups too. I had them before but the service was cancelled a little while ago. Just last night, I signed up for Giganews and subscribed to all my fav groups again. This is gonna be great. I love newsgroups. They're simply amazing.

E-Mule?? haha NO!.
When i download something on cable, i EXPECT it to come in at a reasonable speed.
With my ISP's news group it starts right as soon as a click, at almost max speed.
No queues, no met files, no corruptions, no bullshit.
Why do you think i decided to finally take the plunge into news groups? Because nothing else worked for me.
