In plain english, the rumor goes that Sharman original KaZaA wants to put kazaa lite out of business.
Kazaalite is a spyware-free version, in other words:

no b3d projector from Brilliant Digital Entertainment
no cydoor connection, so no advertisement banner !!!
But the truth is, that it still needs a cydoor dummy file (cd_clint.dll)
also, since the last time i checked, kazaa start button, tell a freind button and shop button where only replace by a blank icon, but it was still there and i also think that the help menu items where blank

Well kazaalite is the original with some reverse engineering. Basicly kazaalite does the job of not installing b3d projector, and replacing cd_clint.dll and cd_htm.dll with dummies. Something that YOU CAN do !!!
So for those users that think kazaalite is the only way for a spy-free version, well this is not true, u can make original kazaa spy-free, just by following easy instruction.

So if sharman launches kazaa 1.7, dont go nuts by thinking there is no more spy-free. Let's just hope that cydoor doesnt change their technology, meaning that the dummy wont work anymore.

P.S. SaveNow and new.net and the others, well in the original kazaa u got the option not to install them.

If you install kazaa original, well, u will install b3d projector and cydoor advertisement automatically.

To uninstall b3d projector, go to Add/Remove in the control panel, and uninstall b3d projector, but if i'm not mistaking it leaves some files behind, do a file search for bde and b3d, and delete them, for those that know exactly where these files are, u can chip in by posting the location, i think in the last forum they where showing the location.

U can also clean your registry by using some registry cleaning utility, like Ashampoo WinOptimizer Suite 1.31 (http://www.ashampoo.com/)

Now for cydoor, replace %system/cd_clint.dll or in the %system32/cd_clint.dll with a dummy. (http://cexx.org/cd_clint.zip)

You can delete cd_htm.dll or replace them with a empty txt file, just rename it to the same name and extention

Clean your registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE. Deleted anything that says cydoor

And that's pretty much it, kazaalite does this for you, but as seen it's not necessary to have kazaalite, this is of course IMHO.

Why would I go through all of that, when KaZaA Lite does it for me?

There is a file available to clean all references to B3D from your registry and system.
B3D Killer (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/B3DKiller.html)
Features of B3D Killer:
-Removes all traces of the Brilliant Digital software (dlls and executables) from your computer.
-Deletes most, if not all, registry keys associated with the program and its "auto-install" function (which lets it re-install itself silently when you browse a webpage).
-Displays output of all actions performed.
-Is only 52 kb.

B3D Killer now removes ALL known traces of B3D\Brilliant Digital from your system (INCLUDING the newest version released on the web and through KaZaA v1.6).

Besides the ease of use factor, the other reason to prefer kazaaLite is because there have not yet been any reports to date of a BDE reinfection. Something that has been reported to happen on a manually neuterred Kazaa 1.6.0. Neuterred Grokster does not seem to suffer this problem either. Kevogod was talking about releasing a GroksterLite on the KazaaLite forums on lunarpages, but I never heard what happenned.

I should note the reinfection issue only appeared briefly, and not since. It could be due to an improper neutering proceedure. But judge for yourself, here's the forum where it was reported:

[edit:]
Has anybody yet tried dr. damn's GroksterLite (for lack of a better name)?
