Does Anyone know how to convert AVIs (DivX and XVid) into a DVD disk?

I am getting my new DVD-RW drive today and I haven't a clue!

Have your tried EO Video? I've comverted Divx into Mpeg's and burned them that way.

DivX & XviD Codecs are compressed for size, also does not keep menus or other extra features included on DVDs.

However, there are SmartRipper & programs that could make backup files of DVDs on your computer. This is also better than converting them back for other uses!!!

I use Tmpgenc and convert them to mpeg-2. Then use Nero to burn the DVD. Works for me.

I think he was talking about a movie that was already converted. EO Video can covert any type of format to another, quicker than Tmpgenc. But as you see everyone has diferent ways of doing it

EO Video is not a freeware & it could only handle MPEG1 for now, which is only good for VideoCDs! DVDs uses MPEG2 for better quality.

2.You should know how to take care of that "shareware" thing, don't you? Hint! Hint!
This version does mpeg2 and dvd's
Check it out. Like i said before i use it and i have no problems burning DVD's.

As you already know I don't use EO Video, and according to their web site today it does not shows anything on latest version's features! If a company does not even update their web site, I don't think I'd care to use it anytime soon, even if I can find a crack for this!

There are plenty of freeware that do a better job than paidware available. Hint! Hint!

Everybody has ther choice. Don't think i paid for it. I used my "ZeroPay", charge card. "Hint! Hint!
The lastest version is 1.36, and on the web site it says that the server has been down for 2 days.

Try AVI2MPG2, it's Free! You can't beat the price, no crack needed!

I believe in Microsoft's philospohy : "Nothing free is any use".

So I will try the programs in this order:

1.EoVideo (The costliest option. Or not. Hint, hint!)
2. Tmgenc (This looks complicated!)
3. Avi2Mpg (I think I tried this when I Googled my problem. It's shareware -$20)

Thank you for your help thus far guys.

Are there any issues converting NTSC to PAL?
What about issues with the various sound formats in use with AVIs? e.g. AC3, OGG, MP3. etc.

As long as you have all the codecs installed on your machine and can hear the sound, tmpgenc will convert everything needed to to dvd. Here is a quick guide (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm) that can help you out. Any other questions, just ask.

First of all go to

and read up there.

In my opinion the best encoder to use for this would be TMPGenc. Its fast and works amazingly good

I am able to use the guide you kindly pointed out, however, I need a program to AUTHOR the DVD for me.

I am at the second stage, having converted to MPEG2.

Here (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/author) is a list of different choices. Depending on how you want to burn it, choose which ever one you want to use.

I find Tmegenc very slow and I have an XP2200, are there any viable fast alternatives?
