From what I gather, the RIAA is targeting only American users.

But if the RIAA is successful in their lawsuits, other record organizations in other countries may follow the same example.

So that is why it is important that the RIAA must not be successful with their lawsuits against file traders.

The fate of the globe P2P use is in your hands fellow Americans!

I have and always will use P2P software. I'm never gonna stop downloading music from the net. They think I'm gonna stop just because some shitty artists can't buy a 2003 jag or a brand new bentley next to the others they already have? I don't think so. Fuck all these greedy ass artists and record execs. If anything this whole RIAA thing has encouraged me to download even more.

I doubt they'll be looking in the private, metal hubs where I do the vast majority of my file sharing. There's simply nothing there for them to find. People sharing music from independent and non-RIAA labels. As for downloading other things. I don't download movies anymore because this junk coming out now bores me to death; certainly not worth any fine or prison sentence. Apps, well that's what newsgroups are for; eMule as well, but that calls for guerilla file sharing tactics.

I think the RIAA will be gone long before we will be.

It is important to let them know that we won't tolerate these persecutions. We need to have days when nobody buys CDs.
Kind of like those gas out days, when Opec was about to raise oil prices.
Then we will make these 5 words clear. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS BOSS.

WinMx, as we all know, is one of the bigger p2p apps. There has been no mention of it in all the RIAA/MPAA rantings. It just goes happily on it's way. Kazaa, and most of the others have been sued and sued again, but never any mention of WinMx. Now I'm not complaining about this, but I don't understand. Why is this one being left alone?

The creator of this thread does not represent ZP, he is a member here, anyone can be a member. So in theory he could be an RIAA agent. (I doubt he is though). In other words, NO, this poll is NOT being run by ZeroPaid.

The RIAA allready knows how effective or ineffective they are, they don't need silly polls on websites where a whole 30 people vote.

Personally, I won't stop sharing, there will allways be a private hub around for me to trade on. Or if I have to, I've made some great friends here at ZP, most of which I have on messenger, I can allways trade through there

Well, let me tell you. In the last month I have downloaded 23 viruses from P2P programs. Compared to last year when I never even seen a virus. Many, many of the songs I have dl were crappy quality or there wasn't anything at all. As a matter of fact, I have been having a real difficult time finding any good quality songs at all. I have been resorting to web site downloads(through google mostly), forums and IRC to get anything. I think that the way of the modern P2P programs have gone and a new P2P society will rise. It's just getting worse and worse. That's all I have to say about that. :mellow

They could sue me.But while I am getting sued I would still be on Kazaa downloading music. They can't stop me.What are they going to sue me for 20,000.I don't have that kind of money on hand so why not download or share more and double it to 40,000 dollars.Suing ain't going to stop P2P, and it isn't going to stop me.The only thing threatening to sue is going to do now is I am never going to buy another cd again I am getting all my cd's off of P2P exclusively.

Scared of the RIAA? Yeah. Much the same way I was scared of the cops before I got sober a few years ago. Driving down the road after drinking a few beers, weed in my pocket. Seeing no cops, I was cool but still scared of the cops. Must have done that several thousand times if I did it once. Another day I'm driving down the road after drinking a few beers, weed in my pocket again. Drive past a cop just sitting there. AHHHH! Now I'm really scared. Must have happened a few hundred times over my 15 year D&D career. Another day, driving down the road after drinking a few beers, weed in my pocket, come speeding around the corner and there's the cops. Pull me over and search me. Busted. But did that stop me? For a a few days or weeks, perhaps. Did it stop anyone else for even 1 day after they read my name in the paper? Nope.

Being scared of having broken the law is not the same as that law detering one from the illegal activity prohibited by that law. People know what they are doing is illegal, whether it's a dui, buying some pot in the park, or downloading the Simpsons off of Kazaa. Knowing that somewhere is a glowering bureaucracy that is inimical to them causes some aprehension, :sw but hasn't stopped the 3,901, 624 users on Kazaa right now from sharing 6,914,688 gigs of mostly copywritten material.

Instead of all this pointless bickering and running around like Chicken Little, there are several constructive things we can all do here.

1) Stop purchasing CD's. Urge everyone you know to join the boycott until the RIAA lets off on the filesharing BS and lowers the price of CD music while negotiating fairer contracts for artists.

2) Don't stop using P2P software. Think there's room in America's prison/court system for 3,901, 624 new cases? C'mon, folks--there's a War on Drugs going on!

3) Register to vote in the town where you live. Urge all your friends who DL that are old enough to do the same. Form a little club, and send letters to your state and national representatives explaining your position and how you intend to vote in the upcoming election. Do know what you will have done? You will have formed a POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE. Just like every other special interest group that gets itts way on Capitol Hill. Including the RIAA.

This is a political problem. It calls a political solution. It calls for us to, in the words of Ben Franklin "to all hang together, or else we shall all indeed hang separately.":cross

I have been downloading stuff ever since napster was first being spoken. Since then I have been through most of the programs that are now history; Scour, bearshare, audio galaxy. And some are still up like kazaa and morpheus and WinMX and am now gonna try and use earthstation5. I won't stop downloading, I always have kept shared files to a small amount and well would LOVE to see the government try to sue all of us. The whole economy is in a slump and this is just one way of fixing one type of business from going any further down. I will admit if they would have stopped Napster when it first came out, and I mean within a few days of it being released, they might have had a chance. But now with us having all these programs at our availability and ease of access it is almost impossible to cut this out of the internet. A case of big brother trying to come in and censor us and take our goodies away that we've had for so long. And if they did launch lawsuits against all of us then wouldn't the millions of the infringement lawsuits clog up the legal system and grind it to a halt blocking all the real criminals from being taken care of? Well I'm done ranting for now, check later

Hell no, I won't stop using the P2P programs to download music and movies. Its naive to think that many people would when they have the means available right on their computers.
I predict that for every person who drops out of the P2P programs because they are scared of the threats levied against them, another 2 or 3 people will take their place. P2P is a growth industry . The number of P2P programs, the websites that cater to file sharers and the number of users has increased dramatically in recent years and as long as 1 or more services remain available, they will be in high demand.

The RIAA and the music industry that think they can scare people away are idiots if they think their latest campaign will either lower the number of people using P2P programs or increase music sales. Kiss my ass , RIAA shitheads. !!!

Even if the RIANZ or RIAA in other words, succeeds in taking me to the slammer I will make sure its worth it, as I am sure many of you will! currently the RIANZ have got a saying:

First of all, in case you've been lurking here for a while, welcome to the other drug that we call posting :;)

now, have the RIANZ taken anyone to court, or requested subpoenas? tho they may have the same attitude as the RIAA, until they take action, they are useless corporate giunea pigs.

what kind of files are you looking for? answer that question and you'll solve your problem of finding the program that fits you.

We all know the best long-term response to the RIAA's mind-fucking isn't to stop using the P2P networks at our service, but the average person doesn't, and they rarely accidentally stumble upon Zeropaid to tell them what's right.

I urge everyone to use caution but not necessarily stop. Don't get mad and make yourself stand out more than you have too. These are serious times, lets take this time to pull back and explore more safe methods of P2P. Theres a new breed coming, lets hope we dont have to wait long for something that works well.

You come here for some reason dont you? Stay informed, stay safe

I wonder what percentage of p2p users are american!!! I'm European and over on this side there hasn't been any publicity against p2p filesharing... guess they just can't be screwed! Thats why I would never dream of stop using p2p apps. It would be interesting to know what effect it would have on all the p2p networks if suddenly the entire United States stopped sharing?

According to Slyck (http://www.slyck.com/), there's 4,073,605 users on the Kazaa FastTrack network.

The RIAA is suing 871 users which makes up less than 0.02% of the overall users.

You have a higher chance of being injured by a lightning strike then getting sued by the RIAA. (1 out of 125000 (http://www.oars.utk.edu/volweb/Schools/sumnercs/ellism/struk.htm))

The RIAA has to sue more than 40,736 users in order to even get to the 1% mark.

So keep on downloading and sharing!

If your playing the numbers game, you have to take into account how many of the 4 million people are in america. I would bet its about 2 mill. So your chances on hitting the RIAA's evil lotto may be a little better. Now let me strap a lightning rod to my head while standing in the rain to see if I can improve on those odds as well.

Since you rocket scientists at the RIAA are trying to figure out how to make more money let me give you a few hints ..........
a.) stop spending all of your money on attorneys and trying to convict the people who have gained access to your files through the different isp's.
b.) instead file suit against all of these providers which in turn charge all of us I mean I am sure that they can afford some $2.00 an account per month to cover the royalty payments.... I mean how can a person be stealing when he or she has paid someone to gain access to these p2p networks in the first place .
c.) I pay approximately $50.00 per month for DSL .... $2.00 more per month isnt gonna make me or break me and it sire would be better to charge the ISP's this royalty fee per person than to see all of this malarkey going on .... what are they gonna do put some 3,000,000 plus people into one jail cell ... get realistic RIAA you need to focus more on the ISP than the person because if Al Gore had never invented the internet we wouldn't have this problem ( now theres an idea ????)

However, I'm not sharing anything illegal, since A) I'm in the U..S.,; B) I've been served with a cease and desist letter once in the past; C) I have two 200 gig HDs full of stuff and would be a HUGE target if I shared all of that.

I do download, a lot. There'd be little reason to have broadband if I didn't have anything to download with the bandwidth, and downloaders aren't their targets anyway.

In any case, what I *do* share is music I have created myself, for which *I* own the copyrights. It'd be rather amusing if they ended up trying to sue me for infringing my own copyrights. ;)

As much as i dislike Gores politics, I agree with you, he had a HUGE help in creating arpanet, and a lot of people do not understand how instrumental his participation was to creating what is now known as the internet.

1. If you don't want to share. that's your choice. I won't delete you. But others will.
2 I have 28k and I share. Not as much as I would like to, but I do
what I can. So a low speed is not a valid excuse.
3. Yhe chances of getting sued are very slim. You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning, and hitting the lottery on the same day.
4. If everybody stops sharing, p2p dies.

If there was a way of knowing which artists were in favour of p2p (eg. Radiohead?) and those that were against it (eg. Metallica?), I'd share those in favour and phuck the rest of them. Then they'll see which bands make the most amount of money.

I'm gonna buy something if I like it, but not a RIAA supporting artist. I need to get a sample of the music first, kinda like a test drive. Is that so unreasonable?

Stop using P2P???

are you kidding...

I've deleted all my P2P programs, burnt my CD's full of mp3s and even destoryed my VCR just in case.

I also now live in a hut and believe that getting something for a price is better than getting it for free. I owe so much to the 'education' the RIAA have kindly enlightened me with.

Seriously though, if you've got yourself in shit with a C&D request... do something kewl for the P2P community, share copyrighted stuff still... just concentrate on rarer stuff.. not new stuff.. just leech the new and share the rarer and older... you'll be less likely to get in trouble and you'll help provide p2p with a broad range of stuff.

Seriously.. I reckon that's a good plan.

Peace!!

It's just a scaremongering tactic people. The RIAA has no real teeth. Their only weapon against us is fear, and they're using it. They have no other weapon against us so do not be intimidated into submission.

Music is information and information is as fluid as water in a river. It cannot be owned. Once it's out there, it's out there. It's in people's heads. Nobody can lay claim to owning it.
