Hi, can anyone tell me what PEER GUARDIAN is used for? It seems to me it's best used for people who are running Web Servers or something? Is this a program that P2P can/should be using?:bk

It is used when you are downloading music it blocks different orgaizations from being able to pick up your IP address when u are downloading and uploading music. I hope I explained it the right way.

I get paranoid with this stuff and don't feel like getting sued or anything.

Well I downloaded it at work and it did nothing.. Do you use it with P2P apps? Does it work automatically?

Yes, you use it with P2P applications.

Basicly, when you connect to say, kazaa, periodicly other kazaa users will connect to your computer to either look at your files, or to download something from you. PG blocks adress's of the RIAA and other similar groups trying to protect their copyright material.

Having it on at work will do nothing, nobody should be connecting to your computer at random.

That still might be confusing...starting to get the idea at least?

Yes, thanx, I got the whole idea of it, do you know where I can find it? I've searched for it on yahoo but no luck.....So is it a prog that I can just installl and start it up and it will do the rest or would I have to configure it?!

by the way, thanx for your help

http://www.methlabs.org/ is the website

Its really easy to install. But you have to do some work every once in a while.

These agencys change their IP's frequently, so you constantly have to get new block lists. I'd recommend getting a new blocklist every week or more.

http://www.simplyclick.org/uploadertest/pgupdates.asp for the blocklist. Just save as, then rename to guarding.p2p. Eventually there will be an auto update feature I believe.

I've tried using peer guardian periodically, but have yet to get any hits. My list is updated. I am on a lan with a firewall router. Am I doing something wrong or is the firewall doing all the work?

tons of fun

No....you're not doing anything wrong..........

....and..........yes.....you're firewall is (probably) doing the work.

This answer is an educated "guess" because you did'nt offer more info in regards to your OS,etc.

Be well...........:tol2

It depends, what P2P network are you on?

Sometimes I'll get 100hits a minute, sometimes I'll go for a day with none. Its pretty random
