So I find it strange that users can you get good uploads from me when I surf the net.

When I don't surf the net, users uploading from me get 25-30k total for 6 uploads at a time.

When I surf, users nearly get 30 ks each, 6 uploads at a time.
(256 UL from my provider)

What gives, if anyone has an idea?????

UL is 105-k/s just by surfing, now as I type, this, cause I am not sufing, the UL to the user in dropping to 20-k/s.

just odd

Is your bandwidth being throttled based on activity on certain ports by your ISP? I could see that being an elaborate way to conserve bandwidth. Or at least possible....not necessarily pluasible

hmm at anytime it could be alot of factors.
*isp *
your computer settings
net congerstion
the amount of users you are uploading too
sometimes when u upload to lots of people at the same time the packets have to be resent and this can cause you upload to become jumpy.
and most definitely the p2p program that you use as well.
for example in one p2p program i use i can only upload like 13.5 kbs

and a differnt p2p program i can upload 16kbs to 20kbs.
:)
heh

Thanks for the replies.

I don't know if it's my ISP, and I don't think I want to even contact them on the issues, them being COX Cable, who knows what they would do to thwart such activity.

I have to try this with emule, e donkey, blubster, etc etc, but I might give that a try as well.

I guess my next order of biz is to figure out how to surf while not at the computer.

Most of my files are really larg cause I use 320 bits when I create my mp3s and it would be nice to give the user 100k/s per second.

Thanks, will let you know if I figure out anything.

I have found a program that is called AutoSurf, (looking for others), but I can't try it till I get home.

It auto-surfs up to 10 URLs, then repeats. Seems stable as I test here from work, but I am on XP here and have 98se at home.

So I will test this tonight and hopefully I will see some good results. Knowing full well I can dish out 100+k/s to users makes me want to resolve this issue.

Here is the link for the program if anyone would like to try it, it's free, don't know about ad-ware. Could use more URLs and the ability to adjust time per going to one page and the next.

I am 100% convinced now that as you browse the web WInMX will upload faster to users.

WHY???!!?????? Who the hell knows.

The same trick did not work on EMule though.

What sucks though is that WinMX re-boots my computer far too often.

But I did find a program called AutoSurf (google it), it will go to websites automatically, while you are away from the computer.

If I can UL to users at over 100kb/s while surfing, then something is very odd with winMX.

Try it, if you want, let me know what you think.

here's hoping for a new version sooner then later

The amount of bandwidth being made available to you by your isp is based on levels of "network activity" which do not include your winmx uploads and tend to focus almost entirely on http. Back when napster was working and web-based chats were still prevalent on the net, rooms would fill up with people who didn't really talk a lot but wanted the chat running because the "automatic updates" would provide http activity that convinced the isp that they were still there surfing and shouldn't be throttled or disconnected. There were also plenty of hack programs to do this for you, I don't know if there are any that are good though. Stick "keep-alive" in your yahoo and read about this concept and some of the rules isps have passed to keep you from doing it in excess.

I ran into the same thing running it on 98se.
It used to help keeping the web open with u/l's and d/l's. I have a broadband conn
I agree with PHALKON30 about the ISP monitoring certain ports. They did it to me.

Have you changed the default tcp and udp ports?
It helped me tremendously with increasing my speeds and I did not have to keep the web open any longer

I am lucky my ISP Timewarp in the UK basicly supply my 512/256 they dont give a shit if I use p2p they dont give a shit about how much I d/l or u/l. They just leave me to my own devices so p2p stays on while im at work i d/l people u/l off me everyone is happy. max out alot on d/l which is sweet as mu u/l gets close to max out aswell.
