Mac has the best power.... none of the others are "Computers" Microsoft is a software company, not a computer manufacturer, you could say PC...? Nintendo and Sega? Nintendo is on the way out with that piece of sh!t system they put out. Sega - havent heard much from them since Dreamcast was no more.
Now that I think about it, maybe he meant Microsoft, as in XBox, because, technically, XBox is a computer, its got everything but a good operating system, and an Open Source Linux project is coming or has come out for modded XBoxes I believe.

our first computer was a packard bell, 8 MB RAM, and my dad was a big geek, me being 5 at the time and knowing nothing, but he knowing that things will get bigger. Anyway, he got the HUGE hard drive that cost an extra 1000 bucks, it was twice the size, a whopping 500 MB.
Came with, well, came with something Microsoft I know before 95, because I remember going to the warehouse and them having truckloads of Crapdows 95 in big neatly stacked displays.
Still use that computer, AOL 3 and lower compatible! Has a 14.4 modem, everything you need. :mellow

The best computer is the one that costs just slightly more money than you actually have. This computer can do things so much more quickly than your current machine. It is easier to use and more reliable. It even has a nicer case, a quieter fan and more and better connectors. It comes in a choice of colours. It has a hard drive so big you can keep downloading forever. It has a CPU with numbers so big you are not even sure how many zeros you need to write it out. It has more RAM than you ever saw. You dream of simultaneously playing Vice City while in the background it compresses a DVD to DivX, processes a huge batch of files in Photoshop, runs emule and kazaalite, and spits out another hot off the press CD-R of anyone except Metallica or Britney. You think about this computer more and more whenever your machine seems a little slow or old fashioned. You can't quite afford it which is a shame as by the time you have the money it will have been replaced by something slightly better which costs just a little more.

Hmmm lets see....you can't compare the two. Why, you ask? Because IBM PC is cross platform...IE unix/linux/windows and a number of other OS's such as BSD.
OSX is probably tweaked to it's own CPU making it more efficient opposed to an IBM PC compatible system which has many OS's all of which aren't fully 'locked' into an OS (cycles not being used by all OS's the same and not fully using the sysems resources).
Plus theres no chance in hell any Motorola CPU could kick a dual Xeon system with the proper software IE stuff that could use the second CPU and use it well. Besides if OSX and mac software can take advantage of dual CPU's then you'd have to compare that with dual PC compatible cpu's along with software and an OS that could handle them to be fair.
You don't even OWN a Mac yet...sure you've used them, but once you actually spend YOUR hard earned cash on one...you'll be kicking yourself when flies are zippin' outta yer pockets... :devil

motorola didn't make the g5... ibm did. it's the powerpc 970, a server cpu...
and no, i won't be kicking myself... you must think that apple's hardware has degraded from the g3 to the g5... the ibook has a g3. a 500mhz g3. i think i'll be patting myself on the back when i have a pbook with a g5 inside.

They compare them in photoshop. Intel's processors have always sucked with visual stuff, they are made more for work horse type operatons. These are all floating point tests.
A good test would be to put a dual Opterons/Itaniums with all the optimized crap and superfast DDR against a dual G5 with the 1Ghz FSB and have them both compress a DVD to divx/xvid and see what kind of fps encode rate you get. Maybe the guys at Tom's hardware have the kind of funds, I don't think many people at zeropaid could do that though.

Actually, now that I think about, I dont even know why we're having this conversation, we're comparing apples and oranges, the G5 is a 64bit processor. When the Athlon 64, and P5 come out, we'll have a little better competition, especially since the P5 will have up to 5Ghz clockspeeds, built in hyperthreading, and they are doubling all the cache sizes.

Your Apple as well as any 'ole P4/XP's can use PC3200 (DDR400) which is in effect running at 800mhz with a nice bandwidth of 3.2gbs.

im 17, mr. jingles. a gigaflop is one billion floating point ops. a bellyflop is a jump you do, usually into a pool.

no, i didn't google it... i remember in 8th grade, one of my teachers had a mac poster that said it. didn't learn anything from the guy, but it was a fun class. one kid peed in a trashcan. he got suspended though.

Yea im back, I see you people like talkin trash behind backs. Hmm.... Gigaflop from a Bellyflop, I like that one mr. smart ass 1 Gigaflop = 1 billion decimal maths/second. Isus didnt elaborate so i figured i would. Oh yea, the bellyflop thing, Isus was pretty close altho he failed to note that it was a 'dive' not a 'jump' and it requires that your body land flat out and completely parallel with the surface of the water or it would be something different, and unless you are a complete moron, you would only do it into a pool. (noting that there was sarcasm in Isus' response)
BTW, I'm not your run of the mill 16 year old that talks out his ass. Isus also failed to note that when i said it would take pc6400 to be fully efficient on the bus, i was at the time refering to how the P4 800 fsb is a quad pumped fsb running truely at 200 MHz so the fastest ram that it could possibly take full advantage of then would be pc 3200 because after you factor in that ddr uses a 2x multiplier on the fsb it would run at 400 MHz regardless of what the cpu ran at. I was stating that if the p4 was a true 800MHz cpu, they would use a 400MHz fsb. At this speed, the maximum rated fully efficient ram would be pc6400 which does not exist on the consumer market (or at least i havent seen it yet).

July 2nd, 2003, 08:46 PM
err, never mind. haha.
btw, notbob... just bc im bored, i did look it up on google. apparently a 'flop' in itself is a decimal carried out 17 places. why 17? lol... it doesn't say... but i still wanna know.

Yes, I know about the itanium and Opteron being 64bit, but my point is that they are comparing a newly released 64 bit processor against a 32 bit chip who's architecture is 8 years old.
Just look at this (http://www.apple.com/powermac/) and you'll see what I mean. I want to see comparisons to other 64 bit chips. They compare it to dual Xeons? Xeons are a nice name for Pentium III's!

i would have to say apple because they are based on the unix system! The one problem about them is that they are too expensive! why would you pay 2000 for an apple computer, when you can pay as low as 499 for a dell or some other type of computer! i also like :::voodoo pc's::: (http://www.voodoopc.com/) or :::alienware pc's::: (http://www.alienware.com/) those would be one of the pcs i would get for a lower price! but if i were to get an apple computer, i would get the new G5 which comes w/ 2 processors and 9 fans inside. the cover is a titanium which lets the cpu parts breathe more(get more air):bk :mellow

you say potato, i say potatoe.
