I'm confused and full of questions.

1) Why doesn't anyone use descriptions for files?
ex. Like on Kazaa you search and the "tooltip" thingy comes up with file info and description. I saw when I right click a file in my library in shareaza and go to proporties I can edit the metadata, including description. NO one does? why?... I like it.

2) Why when I have alot of sources say around 30 the file wont D/L ..on kazaa I can with just 1 or 2..am I far back in line? 'remote que'.

which brings me to my next question.

3)Why when I only have 1 or 2 sources it takes days before..well actually the damn thing never starts, sits there 'Pending'...?

I'm sure this has been asked but...

4)Can the maker of shareaza incorporate the Fast-Track network like he did others? MLdonkey does and maybe he can use a Protocol Sniffer too.

OK thats all I got. but..I seriously think there is something wrong with the Gnutella protocol.
for ex. I used to use winmx (I think on Gnutella if not sorry) and I would search for some arbitrary file. say a song from The Pretenders. Every single one there are like 70-100 people in line for it!! I mean come on this aint no Britney Spears. ok I probably would have better luck getting a popular file but its like
the people in line accumulated for weeks. They would not just give up and get out of line or something. I mean what did they leave there File sharing app on and forget about it...I want that file then not in two weeks..!

Thanks in advance.
Kal

Edit: Blah please excuse me for spelling and grammar errors.
p.s. The help thing and links in help menu dont work for me so...
But I'm using the beta if it is at all..and plus Im on a 3 year old LAPTOP with winME!! thats like a triple threat!

ES5 lets you edit all that data, description, author etc and the information travels with the file.

I think all the programs are suffering from Kazaa-itis, too many users on Kazaa, not enough trying other programs. A lot of the p2p programs out there are excellent, and I'll be the first one to admit it. There is no rational reason why more people are not using them, except that humans have a pack instinct to go with the biggest, even if it isn't the best (IBM, Microsoft, Enron, Global Crossing, Jesus, Eminem, The Titanic, The Hindenberg, etc)

My experience with Kazaa is that it does not deliver up any more files than most networks (even though it has 4.5 million users) and the speeds are nothing to be excited about. You would think there would be a more equal distribution of users based upon quality of each program. Kazaa is not inferior, but it is not superior either.

However, it's hard to get people to change. Remember, Kazaa was nothing and was in the same boat as every other p2p program compared to Morpheus until Morpheus went tits up all at once one day and Kazaa inherited all their users because Kazaa was a virtual clone of Morpheus at the time. People were forced to find a new P2P. It's apparent that once a user settles on a p2p program, it's hard to get them to change. Everyone is trying to make a super-duper p2p program when the real problem is, like Microsoft users, p2p users don't want to take the effort to try other programs. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

1. i dont know why you dont get the info... i do.

2. no, shareaza only tries 2 to 4 hosts at a time. usually, just bc you have 30 sources, most are busy, or will not connect. so shareaza will wait i think 60 seconds for a source to connect, then drop it and go to the next. with 4 at a time, 30 sources would take about 8 minutes to check.

3. thats the way of gnutella... it has a reputation of being slow and difficult to connect.

4. *sigh* no he can't. it costs lots of money to get a license to use the fasttrack network. "protocol sniffer"? i don't even wanna know that you think mike (shareaza's maker) could just look at a packet sniffer and then make some fasttrack code.

judging from your first question, and the 4th, i think maybe you should leave shareaza and go back to kazaa.

Well The reason I wanted to use Shareaza is for a different user base..Maybe more mature and not Change file names to something it is not / Spreading Viruses.

Although I mostly D/L Media I dont have to worry about viruses( I guess).

I found that Gnutella/Edonkey did have files that Kazaa does not.
plus I like that bit torrent stuff too.

So I will just use both apps to fill my needs Im fine with that.

I guess I was looking for an 'all in one' app.
By the way I dont know if im breaking rules or anything but...
What I meant was.
I was reading about MLdonkey and they used a 'Protocol Sniffer'
called Pandora to somehow get there client to connect to the Fast-Track network.
That may be against the law since it is licenced and all like you said.. they may have not payed for it, I'm not to sure.

I dont want that guy Mike to break the law though I'm fine with just using both.

I share my Kazaa folder and let people upload from me..I U/L at about 100 kbps. so I'm glad to help out. I just wish Everyone would switch too!
