"A federal judge approved a settlement agreement Friday in a price-fixing lawsuit that will result in more than 3.5 million music consumers receiving nearly $13 each."
the article http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/03/06/14/1724243.shtml?tid=123&tid=141&tid=188&tid=99
and wouldnt you know it: on the day this news broke, almost all the major p2p news-websites were conveniently hit by DOS...as if this news makes a particular organisation uncomfortable...

That's not eeven the price of one new CD if you include tax. I say the RIAA got off easy on that one.

I think it serves them right to be Fined. I would like to see them put out of business as far as I am concerned. I hope it really hurts them.

probably even more than $88mill... more like several hundred mill if not a billion. think about how many cd's there are... and how many are bought. if eminem sells 20 million cd's, the riaa has fixed the price at least $1... he's let out 3 cd's, $60 million. now do that for ALL the good cd's with high first week release sales.

Im sorry, but that site. www.whatreallyhappened.com is mostly full of 60s folk that havent come down off thier LSD trip.
I love how most of thier links lead you straight to a liberal website.
No offense to any liberals out there, but most liberals I have come in contact with speak about tolerance, but by the same token are the ones that are the least tolerent of anyone elses views.
Little ironic isnt it.
I wont go into much more because this is no place for diplomatic discussions but just wanted to get in my 2cents worth there.
Now back to the RIAA, I think it should be more like 159 billion due within 24hours of the ruling.
Or they will be subjected to an audit on how many illegal ebooks they may have or how many unlicensed MS windows pcs they are using.
Im sure someone somewhere in that ORG copied something they arent suppose to thinking they are safe.
I say its time for an RIAA audit.
Now how do we get that pushed through

They definately have downloaded copyrighted music from indy labels, or other major labels. Didn't they already get fined for price fixing? The second time in 6 months? This is amazing. What do they think the RIAA is? It's like opec, they are in bed with eachother so they can price fix and don't have to compete..... I can't think of any other reason there would be a "RIAA" but to price fix. Honestly people. Screw filing for my $13, they'll have to give what isn't claimed to charity I believe, better them than me, I dooubt they have a nice computer. I'll just never buy another CD from these morons again. Unfortunately there's plenty of people out there who still do.

Cleric, maybe it's because its only really liberal sites that dare to challenge the status quo these days. I sometimes check that site out to keep track of how many Palestinian children Israel has blown up.
@Theinfamousone, this is the same case, theyre only just getting round to passing out the money.

Like it! Ditto that, only thru a different p2p...
But that "what really happened" site is mostly shit.
And not so true, skankho...
check out www.jewishworldreview.com. There are many excellent logical columnists that work to dispell the status quo spin garbage that comes from both sides, and they have more of a Libertarian bent. They're conservative--not because they tow the party line (in fact, many of them have no qualms about criticizing the Repbulican party)--but because logic has prevailed. Read Walt Williams' archives for a refreshing change of scenery.

I wanted to let you know that even that no matter what my sig says,
the suffering childrend on both sides is aweful.
I can tell your not much of an Israel fan..But here, we are all friends..I hope..
Here is an example of the history on what is going on there.
Not many people know it. This is also an example of the liberal things Im talking about. Much of it lacks history to explain why things are the way they are.,,,,,
Violence in the Holy Land broke out almost immediately after the UN announced partition on November 29, 1947. Jamal Husseini, the Arab Higher Committee's spokesman, had told the UN prior to the partition vote the Arabs would drench "the soil of our beloved country with the last drop of our blood . . . ."1
Husseini's prediction began to come true after the UN announcement. The Arabs declared a protest strike and instigated riots that claimed the lives of 62 Jews and 32 Arabs. By the end of the second week, 93 Arabs, 84 Jews and 7 Englishmen had been killed and scores injured. From November 30_February 1, 427 Arabs, 381 Jews and 46 British were killed and 1,035 Arabs, 725 Jews and 135 British were wounded. In March alone, 271 Jews and 257 Arabs died in Arab attacks and Jewish counter_attacks.2
The chairman of the Arab Higher Committee said the Arabs would "fight for every inch of their country."3 Two days later, the holy men of Al-Azhar University in Cairo called on the Muslim world to proclaim a jihad (holy war) against the Jews.4
The first large-scale assaults began on January 9, 1948, when approximately 1,000 Arabs attacked Jewish communities in northern Palestine. By February, the British said so many Arabs had infiltrated they lacked the forces to run them back.5 In fact, the British turned over bases and arms to Arab irregulars and the Arab Legion.
In the first phase of the war, lasting from November 29, 1947 until April 1, 1948, the Palestinian Arabs took the offensive, with help from volunteers from neighboring countries. The Jews suffered severe casualties and passage along most of their major roadways was disrupted.
On April 26, 1948, Transjordan's King Abdullah said:
[A]ll our efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Palestine problem have failed. The only way left for us is war. I will have the pleasure and honor to save Palestine.7
On May 4, 1948, the Arab Legion attacked Kfar Etzion. The defenders drove them back, but the Legion returned a week later. After two days, the ill-equipped and outnumbered settlers were overwhelmed. Many defenders were massacred after they had surrendered.6 This was prior to the invasion by the regular Arab armies that followed Israel's declaration of independence.
Arabs Take Responsibility
The UN blamed the Arabs for the violence. The UN Palestine Commission was never permitted by the Arabs or British to go to Palestine to implement the resolution. On February 16, 1948, the Commission reported to the Security Council:
Powerful Arab interests, both inside and outside Palestine, are defying the resolution of the General Assembly and are engaged in a deliberate effort to alter by force the settlement envisaged therein.8
The Arabs were blunt in taking responsibility for starting the war. Jamal Husseini told the Security Council on April 16, 1948:
The representative of the Jewish Agency told us yesterday that they were not the attackers, that the Arabs had begun the fighting. We did not deny this. We told the whole world that we were going to fight.9
The British commander of Jordan's Arab Legion, John Bagot Glubb admitted:
Early in January, the first detachments of the Arab Liberation Army began to infiltrate into Palestine from Syria. Some came through Jordan and even through Amman . . . They were in reality to strike the first blow in the ruin of the Arabs of Palestine.10
Despite the disadvantages in numbers, organization and weapons, the Jews began to take the initiative in the weeks from April 1 until the declaration of independence on May 14. The Haganah captured several major towns including Tiberias and Haifa, and temporarily opened the road to Jerusalem.
The partition resolution was never suspended or rescinded. Thus, Israel, the Jewish State in Palestine, was born on May 14, as the British finally left the country. Five Arab armies (Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon and Iraq) immediately invaded Israel. Their intentions were declared by Azzam Pasha, Secretary-General of the Arab League: "This will be a war of extermination and a momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades.
So you see what I mean. In these "radical" areas of the world, they think that Israel has no right to exist. They only want Israeli Jews dead. No other way, not gone, not moved just dead.
By the way, I am not Israeli in case your wondering. Im good ole red blooded american that believes in everyones right to live and DEFEND him/herself. That does not include the other person striking me then wanted to stop the fight only to sneak in a sucker punch later.
P.S, any mod that feels this is going to far, please delete. I dont want to cause anywaves, I dislike no one. I am one that wishes we could all live in peace, I really do. Let us all gather under that bigh tech umbrella and laugh and share information.
but even our forefathers stated,
at times the Tree of liberty must be stained with the blood of Patriots.
They said that for a reason.

Are we supposed to recieve this money in our lifetime?!?!?!?!
Cleric
June 16th, 2003, 08:27 PM
No, actually after you make the request, which can only be done on every other Tuesday during a blue moon, they have 8 months after the deadline.
At which time they appeal and make you pay them for the return postage of sending you back the refund request.
Then they charge an extra $7 per cd to offset the cost of them getting busted of price fixing and put the blame off on file sharing because if it wasnt for file sharing they would not have gotten busted and inturn would not have to charge more to offset the fine of price fixin,
So you see its actually our fault. So after the RIAA finishes with their spin, the american taxpayer will end up paying them a "Music economy Stimulus charge ".:finger

that's about the amount I overpaid for 2 cd's. for simplicity's sake, let's say a cd costs $15. splitting the $13 in two gives $6.50. take that $6.50 off of $15, and you have $8.50, a reasonable price to pay for a cd

Not if the lawyers can help it by tying it up in appeals.
