What about Mozilla....the open source alternative. It has pop-up add killer and it's just pure excellence. Always improving itself. Just click on the link at the bottom.

IMO the best browser was Netscape 4.7x (when it came out, now it doesn't support a lot of things). Now I'll stick to IE 6.

2nd Thing: how do i enable the pop up ad killer?

How do i enable the pop up ad killer and how do i delete the temporaray internet files and cookies in mozilla? And is mozilla bad because shareaza blocks connections from mozilla by default
:fire

jabba|xtra
July 16th, 2002, 02:39 PM
to disable popups go to edit, preferences, advanced, scripts & windows, then uncheck the box that says "open unrequested windows"

To clear temp net files in preferences again under advanced go to cache and click "clear disk cache"

To clear history and location bar, , preferences again, navigator, history, click clear history and clear location bar.

And finally, to clear cookies go to tools, cookie manager, manage stored cookies, then click remove all cookies.

And no i dont think mozilla is bad or anything, im not sure why sharaza blocks it. maybe you should go post that over at the shareaza forums.

all browsers are blocked in shareaza and almost any gnutella client it just says mozilla because the fist line in all browsers is mozilla for some reason even in internet explorer they all say Mozilla 4.01 ( MISE) WINT or WIN98 or something like that if your using internet explorer its not directed at mozilla itself but instead at all browsers..it just means if you try to download from gnutella via a website it wont let you it doesnt mean that you cant use the shareaza links ... gnutella://

um... The one I use isn't listed, so can you add it and then I could vote for it? lol I use the new MSN6 browser, and I love it, its easy to use has all kinds of perks, you don't have to sign up for msn access to use it and its free to use, the msn messenger is built in as is a media player that will even play broadcasts from msn music while you surf, it has alot more different settings for email and security and content. lol I could talk about it all day because I love it!!!!! internet explorer sux big time in comparison, and I love it mostly because outlook express to me is evil, and it doesn't use outlook express, it can even archive mail for you and tell you what your local weather is, and it greets you by name when you log into your account (optional for all the paranoid ppl heh)...hmmm what am I forgetting... lol ok thats about all the important stuff... oops oh yeah you can have up to 9 different email users and theres a guest log in that doesn't keep passwords logged... So please add it so I can vote for it.. thanx!!!!!!

I like Opera, IE, Netscape (6 & 7 PR) and Mozilla. But Opera has the better features like searching ebay in the toolbar and multiple search engines. But Netscape/Mozilla putting more features into it like the popup killer. But IE you have to buy, download, whatever to get the features like popup ad killers...

I found Smart Explorer a couple of weeks ago and it's really cool. All windows launch inside a parent window so you can minimise the lot with one click. A popup killer is also included.

Lots of other cool features that I have not had time to look at yet.

Ever since I installed Mozilla, browsing with IE has slowed to a crawl. I don't think it's because Mozilla is so fast that it just makes surfing with IE seem slow. For example, using both browsers with nothing cached, Mozilla takes about one second to load Google, and it takes IE about 10 seconds just to load that single image. It was never THAT slow before I had Mozilla. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not that I really need IE for anything other than Microsoft Update (now even that now that I've downloaded BigFix), I just think it's strange.

Crazy Browser (an IE shell) is simply the best. In Crazy Browser, you are able to remove any of the menu bars you want, and can go from site to site by using tabs! This means you don't have to use the back/forward buttons as much. Also, you can middle-click to move a link to its own page. Middle-clicking in a space will bring up a full screen (you can change these settings to your liking).

The only bummer is that the middle-click will not allow controlled scrolling....but it doesn't make much a difference to me.

I decided to put both the address bar and buttons on the same column to increase screen size.

There's not much I need in a browser. less is more in the case of Crazy Browser. Plus it has a built-in pop-up killer (i never get pop-ups now)

Look at my screenshot of Crazy Browser.

I dislike saying it, but in my opinion, microsoft's browser is probably the best. It seems to support all the new types of code out there.

I think Netscapes browser is just too darn slow.

Never used Mozilla.

I do use Opera just to view this website. Keeps me diverse :D And I like the way it can hide popups behind your current window although I think you can do that w/ mozilla also ?
Anyway IE gets my vote

oh fuck it, i've reviewed quite alot of browsers, including ie, netscape, opera, dominica, enigma and opera

the most speediest is actually enigma, but it is VERY basic, but good for the new internet user

the second fastest was ie, of of course, it's good, but it's boring and doesn't have the same features as netscape, net scape features, include saving your login/passwords on various sites, out of my tests for style, speed and features netscape won by 10 points over ie, opera came third

ps:the only reason opera didn;t come second is because it has ads so there.

I'm using Phoenix also. If anybody is using K-Meleon, I'd suggest you try out Phoenix. K-Meleon uses an old branch of Mozilla (0.6 I think), but Phoenix uses the latest code.

If you're looking for just a web browser and don't want email/news/irc that Mozilla brings, Phoenix is good for that. Just the browser part.

It's currently at milestone 0.2 but it's moving quickly (0.3 due Oct 8th). What I really like about it is that it's linked with BugZilla (Mozilla bug tracker). If you find a problem, just enter it into BugZilla and someone on the dev team will look at it.

Only prob I have with it is that some websites use non-standard IE extensions and they don't work in Phoenix. Phoenix, as it's core Mozilla is, is very standards compliant. If you want to make sure your website is compliant, just load it up in Mozilla. If it works and looks good in Mozilla, it will probably work and look good in any web browser.

Oh, and a reason why I don't use Netscape over Mozilla is because Netscape is owned by AOL. Don't want any of that AOhelL crap on my computer. :devil

edit: another thing I like about Phoenix is the cool user-agent string: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021001 Phoenix/0.2 :;)

Internet Explorer 6 all the way! Netscape blows (too damn slow), Opera is nice and fast (really like the text only feature) but it doesn't support enough tags and xhmtl and all that crap so it just becomes obsolete, Mozilla is nice and fast but it is basically IE without alot of good stuff (and garbage).

Firefox is a truly awesome browser. With the number of extensions that are available for download, you can tweak it to fit your personal preferances. For instance, I have mine set to do a google search without having to log onto google directly first. I simply type gg, space and whatever it is that I want to search in my browser address bar and hit enter. It goes straight to the first result page. If I type pic followed by a subject, it does a google image search. If I type define first, I get a dictionary.com result. There is an extension for mouse gestures that works like opera and a lot of other cool ones. Then there's the tabbed browsing. If you have tried it before, then you must know how nice it is. If you haven't tried it, you really should. It is so much better being able to have multiple pages open in one window, as opposed to IE where you need to have a seperate window for multi-page veiwing. Plus with all the security issues involving IE why bother with it?

currently because of IE based browsers security vulnerablities i use firefox which is decent with mouse gestures and tabbed browsing. but if holes didnt stop me i would have to vote for MYIE2 or maxthon (same browser) and underneath those two i use opera as well.
i notice that alot of you use IE because other pages dont load as welll, maxthon (formally MYIE2) is based on the IE engine so all pages load correctly but has alot of the advanced features that advanced users crave, like tabs, session only cookies, its alot faster, you IE users should check it out..

My vote goes to MyIE2.. its fast comfortable blocks ads, tabbed and most important of all.... mouse gestures!!!
i really liked firefox but i just can go back to not using mouse gestures...
when they'll add gestuires to firefox i think i'll go right to it... just couse of the IE core MyIE2 has...

BTW... Don't use Maxthon yet... its not mature enough and doesn't add anything special over MyIE2...

Internet Explorer and Netscape (all AOL browsers including Compuserve) browsers are the worst browser you could possibly use. Internet Explorer is very slow and extremely unsecure. AOL/Netscape has all the disadvantages of Internet Explorer plus it is incompatible with many web-sites. Not to mention neither of these offer tabbed browsing; and once you used that, you will never go back. The best two alternatives are Opera and Firefox. Personally, I do not know of any reason why Firefox is better then Opera, but many why Opera is better then Firefox--but both are excellent browsers. What I am using now is also fantastic it is call "K-Meleon," and it is...amazing. It is a "young" browser but keep an eye on it, this will be the browser of the future, it works great now, I can only imagine after they update it. But yeah basically Opera, Firfox and possibly K-Meleon. I have found anything else does not perform up to standards (especially IE or Netscape).

Boomer The Dog
July 10th, 2006, 02:39 AM
I'm a total Firefox user on my own machines, but I've had K-Meleon sitting on my desktop for a few years it seems like, just haven't used it much. It's funny that I just got the latest K-Meleon yesterday, then saw the post about it here.

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net

I'd rate it a geek browser, for those who like to configure and have full control over everything, as opposed to Firefox which has a simpler interface out of the box. It's faster than Firefox, especially on slower machines, since the GUI is written in C, but using the same rendering engine that Firefox uses.

PROS-- security and fast
CONS-- "ctrl c = ctrl v bugs" 4-5 years until now no fixed (thats i experienced before):icon_scra

IE
PROS-- not all website can be viewed in OPERA and FF, registry dl'ding better
CONS-- not secured:icon_blac

I am a diehard firefox fan. With the right extensions you can have the browsing experience of a lifetime. It isn't as stable as opera but should be soon when version 2.0 comes out.

I also have opera installed on my system. My girlfriend likes to be logged into two myspace accounts and you just can't do it with one browser.

toocim
July 10th, 2006, 01:53 PM
Firefox is fast but not as fast either Opera or K-Meleon. K-Meleon is pretty much ready out of the box, there is only one thing you need to tweak and that is the Shift-S bug...but it is very easy and quick to fix. I always believed Opera was the fastest most secure browser possible, then I came across K-Meleon and...the race is pretty close. For those of you who do not want to use a browser you have not heard of too much it comes down to Opera vs. Firefox, and that is easy: Opera.

It would be interesting to see this poll started from scratch... I bet the results (and options) would look very different. :icon_tong

For me, it is Opera all the way!

I have all three on my primary PC, and am proficient with all of them. I use IE for banking, because it is the only one that works smoothly with their site. For me, I like to be able to help noobs with their PC problems - I can't do that if I don't know the software. *smiles*

Firefox I tried just to familiarize myself with it. I installed all the goodies - which bulked it up a bit. I also didn't care for the incompatibilities with some of the plugins - when upgrade times rolled around. It didn't feel like a seamless package. It was also frustrating to have to depend on 3rd party plugins for some of the features I wanted.

I have used Opera since v6, on and off. I began to use it more steadily with v8. I love v9!!! Opera v9.01 is wonderful. It is easy to customize, fast and Opera has been a leader in new browser functionality for some time. Opera first implemented tabbed browsing and gestures... you can even change those to fit your personal style. Opera has most features built right in... so their are fewer issues with upgrades. Of all the browsers, Opera has the fastest turnaround on fixes and tweaks. Opera 9 is also much more compatible with those stubborn pages that would never open in the past. 128 bit encryption is standard. I think it is fairly easy to use/learn. They also offer a very helpful, active community of users... what other browser allows you to communicate with the actual developers/programmers in an open forum?

I challenge everyone to give Opera v9 a try! :icon_flow

Regardless of your reply, you will always be on my good list. Anyone who uses Opera has to be pretty cool!

The poll needs to be re-done it is old and many of the browsers have improved.

From my own experiences with all the most popular browsers, I will say Opera 9 is the fastest but some websites only work with IE engines, because the one that I use the most is Maxthon Tabbed Browser. Maxthon is even much better than IE7 beta. It is faster and also more secure. It also has many skins.

I also like Firefox for security, but for speed it is just too slow and uses too many resources. It's good for browsing unknown websites but not for my regularly visited websites.

Thanks.:icon_thum
