Justin Frankel is about to leave Nullsoft/AOL

This is unacceptable to me as an individual, therefore I must leave.

I don't know when it will be, but I'm not going to last much longer.

I have nothing but respect for the company--I've just come to realize that
it is time to do something different.
Justin made a name for himself by creating the world’s most famous audio player software the WinAmp. He was quickly recognized as an icon of the MP3 revolution and the whole e-boom that has had such an influence in most parts of the world. He even managed to write a book about MP3s few years ago. Justin also was able to significantly benefit financially when his company Nullsoft was aquired by America Online.

But working for a big company hasn’t been smooth sailing for Justin as AOL has had trouble accepting the new software products that he had developed. Some time ago AOL pulled the plug on Justin’s GNUTella P2P software, and recently the same thing happened with WASTE which is a secure instant messaging and file swapping tool.

Justin certainly can afford to leave Nullsoft/AOL and his mailbox will likely be filled with job offers from other companies. It will be interesting to see what will be his next project.

Great, I hope he leaves and then writes some awesome p2p application. Too bad he will have to give up the NULLSOFT brand name.

I am really interested in what Justin's future holds. The guy has talent that isn't matched by many and I hope he becomes something great. I think we should thank AOL for pushing him away, now he can move on and not be afraid of what the parent company thinks.

That little app he wrote called Waste.

Is really like zimmerman's pgp. zimmerman wrote it before society and authorities knew what was up and he has made it possible for people to safely encrypt messages.

Waste seems to do that for private file sharing. Way cool!

now all we need is a waste syle secure protocol/closed group network, and a bittorrent style distributed transfer system, merged into one... mmm...

Just wondering what incredibly cool stuff justin makes now.

There are a few guys like him, that consistently make great new innovative programmes, and you get people like aol trying to stifle him.

I'm sure he'll be sad to say goodbye to NS, and his teammates there (assuming they're not gonna follow him ;)) but he won't miss aol.

just gonna have to see what happens to WA now though. Or rather, see what happens with J-Amp ;)

I cant really say how I feel about certain companies right now ahmm.

I am being :mellow byt the way.

So I can that winamp will probably be stripped of what makes it different, have so much java implemented into it so it will look nice while it crashes your system.

Arggg, I cant go on.

:green3

And this green guy is suppose to be upchucking, whats going on?

Not true, if you pay close enough attention you very well might find him browsing the site.

Theres always foobar! he can probably continue to develop WASTE unless AOL tries to stop him but then he can just change the name.
