resizing svcd

How can I resize or change format for svcd,
coz my writer does not suport overburn and the files are around 800 MB..

I was trying with virtual dub, but it doesn't open the svcd file..
I tryed TmPgenc, but I didn't get far there either..

Any help would be sure appreciated!

what is is, a cue and a bin you have, or a big mpeg-2?

thing is, it should fit that 800mb on a 700mb cd, due to the way it burns it.

it burns it in mode 2, with less error correction. it will work, trust me.

yeah i dl those svcd movies in bin and cue format all the time, i just use Alcohol 120 to burn the bin files and it works fine for me.

It is mpeg file over 800 MB and when I tryed to set on mode2 or any other setup, nothing has change.

It says it's to little space on cd, well .. like I didn't know that :)

However ..maybe I should start saving for a recorder that can do overburn huh?

Sorry you are having problems..have you tried using a cd burning software called "nero" or "nero burning rom" ?

It has an option to burn svcd...actually vcd...but i think its a similiar concept and should work for u.

Here's what I usually do.

If its a bunch or rar archives..I usually extract the contents of them so that I'm left with a bin and cue file...then I use a program called "daemon tools" which will let your 'mount' the cue file (still on your harddrive) and after it has 'mounted' the cue file it will now treat the bin and cue file as if it were another cd-rom drive on ur pc.

then I go into whichever folder (from the newly mounted drive in daemon tools) contains the *.dat file adn I move the *.dat file by copying it (not actually moving it..making a copy) to another location on my pc.

Finally I rename the *.dat file to *.mpg then open nero burning rom and select "burn vcd" then j just drag and drop the renamed *dat file (now called *.mpg) into the bottom pane in nero and then click 'burn'

I was able to burn an 800mb bin and cue file this way to a 700mb cd-r..the person who posted above (don't remember who it was now) is correct that due to the way it burns it...only looking for 'track2' type data or something..it actuall y works.

A probably quicker and easier way...might be just to buy some larger capacity cd-r discs at 900mb if you can find them...i think most have to be special ordered...800mb discs might be more common...but try the method above if you need more help search the web...use google.

its quite easy actually , look at the vcd disk you have and find the directory MPEGAV and you should find a large .DAT file in it, this is actually the mpeg file you want, copy it to yer harddrive then rename it to .mpg and open it in the usual way in virtualdub.(you will see parsing mpeg stream as it loads in)
Next go to Video in Virtualdub / Compression select divx5.0.3 or nearest you have, select it then click on configure, select the encoding bitrate (i usually encode at 217kbps as it is good on size and quality) click ok, next go to AUDIO select Full Processing mode - ok that, then select Compression , go to mpeg Layer 3 , i usually encode at 56kbit/sec for same reason as above.
Ok that - click on interleaving in same AUDIO menu,and tick the box.
Ready to rock, save the file in whatever filename you want and take out the two ticks on the preview boxes that appear on the encoding windows as it will speed up processing.

I usually recode most tv series i download as people over encode everything unnecessarily for example i downloaded a few enterprise episodes all VCD 400meg size which is crazy = 1 per disk! so i recode em as soon as iget them so i get 8 episodes per disk and the quality at 110mb is fine.

p.s. 4 got 2 add ignore the name of the file in on the vcd (i.e. the dat file) sometimes it is call musicsq.dat or video.dat whatever it is still the same thing .

the quality may well be fine, but it's then not standard vcd, and you'll have problems playing it on many standalones.

people don't encode wrong, they encode compatiblely. that IS a word, i decided.

if you actually read the original question that was asked which you obviously did not the guy isn't asking how to encode vcd , he is aking how to change the format.AND i didn't say people encode wrong i said they "over" encode.

what, and "over encoding" ain't wrong? you tried to correct it be reencoding it to divx, so surely if something needs corrected, it must be wrong.

as for the original question, fenomen thought an svcd would'nt burn to a 700mb dic becuase it was 800mb. this ain't true, as i explained, due to the differing error correction, and the mode it's burned in. 800mb of (s)vcd WILL fit on a 700mb cdr.

he wanted to burn svcd, not your shittily reencoded divx. why did you tell him how to reencode vcd anyway? he wanted to know about svcd. nan/virtualdub don't open mpeg-2. you told him a load of shit AFTER his problem had been fixed. you're a clever guy, eh?
