Ares website down

The Ares website is apparently down. Any one know why?

Probably Updating again, it happened about 2 weeks back for about 24hours.

i dont think i like the new Website because I dont see the Users Online and the Files online I guess i need to get the client to see the network stats. Personally i liked the old website cause atleast it had the network stats

I agree, I liked the user counter. They got rid of it stupidly (Edit: Ignorantly) thinking that it increased their liablility for RIAA attacks, bah...

well tell you the truth there wasnt no reason to take the counter off because if Riaa wants they'll go after their ass without a counter lol so i dont think it was cause the Riaa but i still think they shouldnt of taken it off

I'm what's commonly referred to as a USER, and seeing as how Ares is an END USER APPLICATION i'm the person who it's supposed to work for.

It's ignorant (see later statement for explanation of stupid/ignorant) if it's incorrect, which it is. Seeing as how the RIAA can tell how large you are without you providing a counter.

It is my understanding that the download/queing system was upgraded, which did not have any effect on the ability of the system to count users. Hell, gnutella can count users. There was never a NEED for a user counter, it's just a nice feature that I happened to like. Which is WHY i'm unhappy that it was removed for reasons which I believe are based on a misunderstanding of the legal ramifications that softgap could suffer due too operating the counter (which are null).

Exactly how intelligent does that make you if you're assuming to be able to read my mind. They have special hospitals for that type of person. As a matter of fact I inquired as to the cause of the removal of the user counter at the Ares forums and thus didn't have to "Think" about why the action was taken. I was told. Did you think of that?....Doubtful.
I don't want anyone to misunderstand me, I love Ares to death as a application and Cometseeker has been nothing if not responsive to the desires of his userbase. I admit that perhaps "ignorantly" should have replaced "stupidly" in my original post, I'm sorry for throwing you into a tiss over a subject you apparenlty knew little about, Evil Dweller.

The count was taken off because the new network that has been added to ares in build 2915 will be used to show the amount of files that the network contains and not the amount of users...the network is being worked on to provide users with an abundance of files...

Tell me, do you go after downloading files or users?
That's why the files available is more needed than the user counter..and no there can't be both

Thank you Beat. Ares always had both a File count and User count before. All documented network changes only dealt with the downloading and queing mechanisms, so I can't see how this would force the removal of the user counter.
