Share this information it is good for the bittorrent community...

Lesson number one.
If you want a bittorent site to go down, post a link on ZP all you can. Maybe go over to slashdot and post it also. BT is a brutal site killer

I have to admit, Sharelive rocks. Best site of its kind.

I sense a hype here.

Yes it rocks because it's down. Ahhh good thing I have a site that actually works.

What is their problem that they are always down?

Mel_Smiley
June 3rd, 2003, 07:21 AM
The sites hosting the BT trackers has to upload all these 100 to about 300k info files for the torrents and when the servers get hit hard upon a new release, the hits overload the servers. BT was not meant for massive public download sites but rather smaller companies trying to save a buck on bandwidth. The servers who are gonna host movies, games , music etc. etc. really need better severs with alot of bandwidth

yeah my understanding is that the site was hit by so much traffic that the host pulled it offline. It will be back though, according to intimidated.

has anyone noticed sharelive is back up but without bittorrent support, i guess their servers couldn't take it so they had to get rid of bittorrent section:(

I'm not seeing Torrent links anywhere on Sharelive. Anyway, downloading Torrent links on IRC works great. I tried it yesterday out of curiousity and there were still plently of sources, completed and partial.

Listen guys, i'm getting pretty pissed off with people spreading shit about sharelive. I guess it's my fault for not keeping the community informed. Here's our status:

We're back online, on a new donated server. It's slow, but it works.
We're not out of the shit just yet. We're seeking another server to handle our SQL (yes one dedicated server is not powerful enough for our needs, and this is a 2ghz P4 on a 100mbps connection)
We didn't remove BitTorrent purposely, actually we just lost the code. hehe - actually i'm just waiting for Si to upload it again.
The reason we were pulled offline is because our usage was double that of the likes of ShareReactor.
Andy_TRK, thanks for your kind comments. I've checked out your hosting package at home.nl - if you had half the hits we have your site would fall like a rock. YOU try generating 20 pages a second on your package.

Like I give a shit? I don't want to advertise sucky programs like Shareaza, that's your choice. Besides the home.nl server can handle a LOT. I don't think my site would "fall like a rock" haha.
Why did you even do research on me, that's very childish.

Oh and it's Andy_TRN, not TRK.

Sorry Andy mate, but I'm on Intimidated's side with this one. ShareLive run a DEDICATED server, not one shared with hundreds of other users. And I doubt your site has got a 100mbps connection all to itself!

No SHARED p3 700mhz server could take any sort of strain.

Oh, and we don't promote shareaza. (p.s It doesn't matter to me what your name is.)

Yeah, where you get that idea from Andy?

Take it easy on him if you can Intimidated, he's new to this "having his own website" thing ;-)

Yes, I agree.

I have nothing against you man, but i'd appreciate it if you didn't diss us when you most likely have no idea what goes into running a site like this, let alone how much work / money we put into it.

True, but it would be near-impossible to run ShareLive through static content, never mind impractical!

Yeah, lol, we couldn't do ANYTHING with static content!

Just think......the wonders of manually coding:

Well the things that never change won't be generated will they? Surely whoever coded ShareLive can't be that stupid? I mean, even I didn't manage to make THAT mistake!

Don't worry I think you have a great site intimidated.
The speed it has compared to other sites that have the same traffic is impressive and intimidating.
Keep it up man hope you put the bittorent part soon so I can keep uploading....

To make it even peerweb is no joke specially after adding the uberstandard music to it.
Its because of you guys that we spend hours donwloading meaningless crapp.
So please don't fight have fun....

Would it be possible to host your site on a few servers?

Gamecopyworld.com does that (if you check out their site, you can see what I'm saying)

It would be sorta a pain, especially to keep updated, but it would be harder to kill from massive ussage

They're moving the torrents right now. Sharelive has some juicy servers, let's hope this helps the Bittorrent community.
