I have a cable modem and using WinMx with no throttle limits set. It seems that I often have much high upload speeds than my download speeds. For example, right now I have an UL & DL going with both of us using cable, The UL is at 8.something and my DL at 2.something. This seems pretty typical, most times my UL is faster than my DL, any thoughts on how this could be improved? Thanks.

Hello all I have been reading this forum for quite some time now and just today decided to register. In Reply to figure out your exact download and upload speed devide the 1000 and 256 by 8 and you have your speed. 256 = 32 1000 = 125 :upside

256kpbs is exactly 32k so if you limit bandwidth 28k seems perfect...
16k=128kbps
32k=256kbps
To answer the original question...
The cable user you are downloading from might have a lot of slots open at the time..does this happen all the time or just some of the time?

Usually you will get higher download speeds than upload speeds, because when you download you have the ability to get your files from multiple sources. If the file you chose to download is only available from one individual, there is not much you can do.
Just check one thing though to eliminate the possibilities. Go to settings-->bandwidth throttle and make sure "limit incoming bandwidth" is unchecked or is a high number.
