Is there some way to conceal your ip address so as to prevent the riaa or mpaa from tracking you?

I don't believe that can happen easily on the current systems like Fasttrack, WinMX and any Gnutella client. Out of all of these, Gnutella is the worst because it actually openly displays your IP address in most clients. The future however is encryption. Filetopia encrypts data like that I think.
Hope that helped.

filetopia encrypts your ip address. Go to their website and read up on it.

Encryption doesnt hide your Ip adress.. Your Ip adress is the adress of your computer if no one knows that then nothing will get sent to you. Encryption encrypts the message to prevent people from monitoring what you send and for the most part on P2P its not needed.. The trade groups arent interested at least not yet in the data thats being transferred only the data thats avaible.
The more "secure" and paranoid that p2p programs generally the harder, and more inefficient they become..
With any program your ip adress is being used its beind used constantly while your on the internet.. By running netstat its easy to see all the only protection that the average use needs is maybe a firewall and virus scanner and to make sure to keep their PC updated...
The only certain and 100% guarenteed way to "hide" yourself only is to disconnect the phone line or network cable.. The internet and especially p2p was not meant and is a poor enviroment for hide and seek.

Here is more information copied from the filetopia website.
Encryption:
Filetopia uses the Public Key paradigm for communications with the Chat Server and all File transfered among users. A public/private key pair is generated on each side of the connection and the public keys are exchanged. Thus, every connection consists of three encryption components: A Public Key mechanism, for which the Elliptic Curve algorithm is used, and a Symetric Encryptor and Decryptor for which you have a choice of ten ciphers, many of which are AES candidates.
The key size of the symmetric encryption components is of 256 bits by default.
How anonymous is really Filetopia?
We will never ask you for any personal information. Inside Filetopia's database we only keep your Nick and a hashed version of your password. Not even the IP addresses are recorded or logged. When connecting to the Server, your identity is also protected, your Nick is only shown to people in the same channel and your IP address is never shown anywhere in Filetopia. In the case you want your IP address to be unknown also to the server and to any network analysis tool, it is possible to use a "bouncer" program that we are distributing in source code.
