Seph,
I appologize if I twisted your words. Maybe I did take that out of context or imply something that you did not mean. I think I can see that you are looking for all parties to be treated fairly and that you don't see that happening. I agree with you on that desire. I think people should be fairly compensated for their efforts. That is why I question the whole concept of the P2P file sharing deal. It seems to me that some people might be being cheated out of their rightful due. I'm glad to hear you say you don't support piracy. I suspect we share more common beliefs than we have competing ones. You said possibly bots or lawsuits shouldn't be the answer to detering illegal file sharing. Do you have suggestions as to what the answers might be?
BTW, the fear that I am some kind of a music industry Troll is completely unfounded. I actually was wandering around the net today trying to figure out how to make a client of mine's Limewire application work and came across this site so I thought I would see if I could educate myself on why the P2P idea seems to be so strongly supported by its fans. I have absolutely no connection to the music industry and am actually very minimally involved in this whole subject other than being concerned with what my teenage sons listen to and questioning whether their use of Kazaa and similar programs is something I want to support or discourage. I have used Kazaa myself a time or two and have moral questions if it is the right thing to be doing. So, as you can see, I am possibly wrestling not so much with you as I am with myself.
Hunter,
Maybe I am wrong but I don't think what I was writing should be considered "Preaching to the choir" since that would indicate I am telling those who are listening something they already know and believe in. If anything, all the other posters are preaching to the choir, not me. :-)
Well, I suspect this will be my last post since I don't want to take up any more of your time. Maybe some of the things I have said will make sense to you in time. Maybe some of the things you all have said will become clear to me in time. It is all about listening and learning. Thanks for the conversation. Remember to keep the door open, or would that be the thread open, ;-) to help all of us become better educated.
Sincerely,
Mark
