In 1979 I got my ear pierced. Mind you back then it was not as common as it is now. I was in a band and we all went and did together as kind of a bonding thing. I don't wear it anymore because now it doesn't mean anything as everybody and their grandfather has one. Never had a tatoo though I have been tempted a time or two.

Nothing. No piercings or tats.

Tattoos don't interest me very much. Piercings are a different matter. Before I go back to college, I'd like to get a piercing on the top of the ear.

Piercings really aren't supposed to have a meaning, unless you have a Prince Albert.

Ears are pierced, once in each ear... that was done when I was 5.

Belly button is pierced... that was done for one reason: I wanted to see if I had the guts to actually go through with it.

Got a tattoo... the 24th of May last year... geez... not real sure why I did that... my reasoning was because I didn't go to prom, I had to do something memorable in place of it. So I got a tattoo... but that was the day before prom, the day I found out I had mono... what a great day. it's the celtic symbol for trinity.

/me shuts up now....

One piercing in my left eyebrow that I have had for 8.5 years. I have a nice, curved barbell in it that is probably 14 gauge.

I had my septum pierced, when I was about 20, for a few days before i realized that massive allergies and an object imbedded in my nose did not mix.

That is it... I am anti-tatoo for the most part as:
1) They fade
2) they are permanent
3) They go out of style
4) They affect your future vocational opportunities (i.e. on your arms, neck, face, etc... they limit your job options to dishwasher lol--sorry, I have known too many dishwashers with tats that they could not cover up)

BTW Undying Wizard NHD, thanks for the heads up on "420;" I always thought that it was gang code (or perhaps the police code for drugs).

--Edit: added reason #4 why not to get a tat. unless it is this one --

I have one tatoo, but I thought this article would add some interest since it delves into the "newest" in body alteration.

Ears with two, three, even five piercings are ancient history. Studs in tongues and navels are, for many, no big deal. And who doesn't have a tattoo? These days, the attention-grabbing look is tongue-splitting: cutting the tongue to make it forked.

Didn't know that. I'm just across the water from you as well.

She got her tongue pierced with a barbell but it got so swelled up that she passed out and it had to be taken out.
What does this have to do with P2P though? You wanted to trade pics on WinMX I presume?

Piercings: none. nada. zip.

Tattoos:
Right Calf: Flaming Purple Upside-down Purple Skull (art for motorcyle gas tank )
Left Calf: None yet; pending.
Right Forearm: Lord of the Rings Wrap-Around Mural: Gandalf Standing Beside A Pile Of Smouldering Skulls, Holding a Palintir and Blasting with His Staff at the Chief Ringwraith , who is in Combat With Lady Eowyn while Gimli Hacks his way to the top of a Pile Of Bodies with his Axe to Rescue Eowyn.
Left Forearm: Eagle clutching the Globe with my son Ian's name and birthdate (6/18/99)
Right upperarm: OM symbol, Spiritcatcher with the earth inside, a Dragon, a Floating City (like from the Yes albums), a Pegasus, numerous Planets, three Pteradactyls (from a Farside cartoon) the Sun, and a Hot Air Balloon.
Right Chest: Profile of face of the Norse God Odin
Right Shoulder/Back: The Earth Goddess (Artemis)
Left Upper Arm: 1000 CC/61 C.I. Harley Davidson Sportster Moter circa 1978-1980 with Kickstarter and Two Skulls Breathing Fire for Rocker Boxes atop the Cylinders, the Mayan-Toltec Temple of Kulkukhan from Chichen Itza, a Bass Clef, and a Celtic Calendar.
Left Shoulder/Back: Yin/Yang

My son's b-day tattoo and my Harley Engine tat are somewhat visible (not super clear, though you can read the name "Ian") in the pic I posted in the "ZP Family Album."

My tattoo artist, Skott Greene, did all my skinart. He told me that he enjoyed seeing me come through the front door of his shop. "When I see you walk in," he said, "I know I'm not doing another stupid fucking Tasmanian Devil with a hockey stick..." Skott unfortunately met his untimely demise in that RI nightclub fire back in February. I am still not right about his passing--when you voluntarily allow someone to inflict that much pain upon you, you develop a special relationship that person. He hurt me more than most of my ex-girlfriends, but I miss him far more. RIP, Skott.

Every tattoo I have represents something important to me, my life, and my beliefs. The only thing that is truly mine in this reality is my body, it is the only sacrifice I can make that is truly mine. Most are my own designs or discoveries, or something Skott designed based on my request, though some are adaptations of flash art.

Some idiots have actually asked me if my tattoos are real or temporary. I always answer "Temporary" and they go "Really?" in this incredulous tone. To which I respond, "Of course they're temporary. They're all going to rot off someday..."

nope dead serious i went to a few tattoo places n they said they cant do it

any tattoos on back of wrist, back of neck or around the wrist cause of some stupid law...

btw, head/neck, hand& feet tats are illegal because they almost always get badly infected; same with other areas one might imagine. Doesn't matter, if you really want a particular tat in a particular place, someone will do it for you, just not in a legit shop. But then you're taking your chances with Hepatitis and other nasty diseases...caveat emptor.

As far as tatoos go I have a large saber-toothed cat on the center of my back. I don't why I did it other than to say I was pretty fucked up then. It's probably how I got Hepatitis C too.

Saber toothed, cat, eh Crazy Horse? Sounds like it might have fit you well, back in the day. I think that stabbings (and bullet-holes) fall more under the category of "piercing" than "tattoo"...I somehow managed to escape any direct shooting or stabbing incidents, though there were a few guns and knifes waved in my general direction, lol. And my nose never did set properly after one particular beating...

Krell, after looking at the piece you are thinking about putting on your back, I say "go for it!" Don't get it in color, though, go blackline all the way. And I don't know about anyone one else, but tattoos never seemed to hurt as much if I could watch what was going on. Maybe I'm just a masochist. I Must be, if you met some of my ex's.

As far as requests for pics, I looked around but I don't seem have many readily available, as the future Mrs. CTC Command is rearranging things in preparation of her moving in soon, and I don't know where she put all my photographs at the moment. But I did find one with part of the LOTR wraparound, so I am including it here. More to follow if I can find them...

edit: This picture is fuzzy because it is only a small part of a larger picture, and I blew this excerpt up so you can see it. The actual tattoo is still pretty clear even though its about ten years old now and been in the sun alot. The left-hand figure is the chief Nazgul with his mace overhead about to strike at Eowyn--Eowyn is in front of him but you can't see her in this pic. Gandalf is standing to the right of the smoking skulls, also out of sight. It would probably take about 4 photos to completely narrate this particular tattoo.

That is well beyond stupidity, crossing into the realm of idiocy and "these people should not breed" territory.

Other things:
1)420 is the police code for marijuana possession.
2)I understood that piercings, for the most part, are not permanent, unless you get a Prince Albert. They do heal after a period of time. Am I wrong?

I had both my ears pierced about 2 different times, but then I get tired of them and they seal up because of lack of use. I am planning on getting one of my eye brows pierced soon, as well as a tattoo on my 19 birthday but I don't know what I want or where it would be. Still deciding on that.

What I really want but don't have the guts for is a lip piercing. My friend got one which he did himself, and he told me how the lip skin tends to rip like paper when pulled on slightly. *shudder*

Well stephen_sterritt needs to find out how this thing with NI made it against the law. If it 's a Northern Ireland Act of Parliament then see if any English one's preside over it, or the HRA 1998. Claim that tatoos are part of your religion, and you have freedom to religion lol What's he saying I don't think is illegal in England, could be wrong, it's just a health matter, nothing else.

Well I got my left ear pierced, that's it, was thinking of a tatoo on my left arm, like the coat of arms for the S.A.S. Oh I was planing in turning my stud into a ring thing when the who gets bigger, so then I'll put crosses hooked in the rings.....Billy Idol style. Was thinking of getting my tongue pierced, but that's more for girls stuff IMO. And besides if it isn't done properly you can die from it. I wander why this isn't illegal in Northern Ireland then???

US Nose Ring Population in Serious Decline
Faces Extinction
By Bill L

Washington D.C. - The nose ring, once a proud symbol of American individualism, bandwagon-hopping, and tastelessness, has in recent months decreased in numbers so dramatically that many wonder if its beauty and majesty can be preserved for future generations.

Although plentiful in recent years, as many a 90s scenester can attest, as the decade moved on, nose-ring numbers plummeted due to the destruction of its natural habitat as Generation-Y-ers graduated, moved into their mid-20s, and needed to find regular jobs. Today, the nose-ring's very existence is threatened in the lower 48 states where they once roamed from the Pacific Northwest to the malls of Dixie. In the Midwest, they seem to have favored areas near Dairy Queens, Gaps, and Orange Julius, where they could benefit from maximum exposure and shock-value, whereas in the Northeast they favored coffee shops, nightclubs, and rehearsal spaces. However, between 2001 and 2003 nose-rings were eliminated from 95% of their original range, with extirpation occurring earliest on the Northeast and later in remote wilderness areas such as Wisconsin.

Because of this dramatic decline and the uncertain status of nose-rings in areas where they had survived, their populations in the contiguous United States were listed as threatened under the Endangered Fads Act in early 2003 where they joined propellor caps, mood rings, and springy antenna headbands. Nose-rings persist as identifiable populations in only four areas: suburban New Jersey, the Binghamton New York area, greater Milwaukee, and Orange county California.

To restore nose-rings to their once far-flung ecosystem, the EPA has developed the innovative Citizen Management Plan which enjoys the support of Interior Secretary Gale Norton. Under the plan, these four populations will become designated recovery areas, where they receive full protection of the Endangered Fads Act.

Recent research into peer pressure and imitation among teens has produced growth and size estimates for these nose-ring populations. Since many nose-rings exist only in the smog covered, traffic ensnarled southern California ecosystems, we have only rough estimates of size for US nose-ring population. These studies required the tracking, darting, and tranquilizing of the few remaining nose-ring wearers in order to fit them with a satellite-link collar because without the aid of radio tagging, it is even more difficult to directly count or otherwise monitor nose-ring populations in their extensive, typically suburban, ranges.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service published a final Record of Decision regarding nose-ring restoration in April 2003. This decision called for reintroduction of nose-rings to the Texas-Fort Worth Galleria as an "experimental" population directed by a 15-member "Citizen Management Committee". The plan calls for release of a minimum of 25 nose-ring wearers into the Galleria and its environs over a period of five years. If successful, this program could pave the way for the reintroduction of nose rings into other urban areas and with some luck, the numbers of nose-rings could sufficiently increase just in time to become "retro."

Not all, however, welcome the nose-ring's return. Dirk Kempthorne, the governor of Idaho, has filed a lawsuit against the government because he says the rings pose a serious threat to "family values, health, and decency." Kempthorne said: "I oppose bringing these hideous, flesh-tearing, family destroying, godless, secular-humanist, barbaric, un-Christian, disfiguring, satanic contraptions into Idaho. This is perhaps the first federal land-management action in history likely to result in injury to or discomfort to members of the public. Maybe they're fine for the eggheads back east, well, let them have them on their daughters and see how they like it. Next thing you know those Washington beltway insider bureaucrats'll want us to have to share water fountains with nose-ring wearers."

I saw this picture of a chick who had Hobbes (from Calvin and Hobbes, look at my avatar) jumping over her belly button... it was the cutest thing. It is on http://alloftheabove.net/cahr (in my sig).

Anyways, I thought about getting another tattoo, before mine went all crazy...but... I don't want to go through all that again. Now... because I probably shouldn't get another one... I want to... I guess that's just how it goes eh. On the other hand I wish I hadn't done it at all, the tattoo or the belly button piercing. Too late though.

The most I'd think I'd do for another piercing is that upper ear thing, but I don't wear earrings so it'd look weird. I just think it looks neat. Guess I'm not too daring. :wings

A little piercing history for y'all:

The Prince Albert piercing is named after Prince Albert who was the husband of Queen Victoria of England. He was reputeded to have had this piercing done prior to his marriage to the queen around 1825, at that time Beau Brummel started the craze for ultra tight mens trousers. Because the pants were so tight, the penis needed to be held to one side or the other so as not to create an unsightly bulge. To accomplish this some men had their penis pierced to allow it to be held by a hook on the inside of the trousers, this piercing was called a "Dressing Ring" at the time because tailors would ask if a gentleman dressed to the left or the right and tailor the trousers accordingly, tailors to this day will ask if you dress to the left or right.

The Prince Albert Piercing is very effective for sex, that is why it is the most popular male genital piercing. It provides greater stimulation to both partners during sex, and it has the added allure of being being somewhat kinky, people always have to wonder what it would be like to have sex with someone with a genital piercing. On top of all that it makes the penis more aesthetically attractive, in the same way as jewellery worn on the fingers.

The Prince Albert Piercing is done through the eye or "urethra" of the penis and then comes out at the intersection of the small bridge of skin "fraenulum" and the edge of the head of the penis "corona", there is an almost triangular intersection and this is where the piercing goes. If the man is uncircumcised it must go slightly to one side of the fraenulum, if he is circumcised it can go directly through the centre.

Many men considering getting this piercing are put off by the idea that it must be painful, however the pain is minimal. The piece of skin where the piercing is done is very thin, less than 1mm thick. Ice is used to numb the area before the piercing. The pain is just a very short sharp pain which lasts a second or two.

The Prince Albert piercing is a very easy piercing to heal, because every time you urinate you clean and disinfect the wound, I have never heard of a single person having a problem with this piercing. Urine is sterile when it leaves the body because it has been purified by the kidneys, and it contains a large amount of ammonia which is a strong antiseptic. The more water you drink the quicker the piercing will heal.

There is one drawback to having a Prince Albert piercing, because the ring goes through the urethra you will dribble when you urinate. This problem is worse for some people more than others. The problem improves with time, and the insertion of the thicker ring, but it never goes completely away.

Interesting eh?

More Info?

Prince Albert: Long before it became associated with royalty, Victorian haberdashers called the Prince Albert a "dressing ring". According to Doug Malloy, the practice apparently originated with Beau Brummel, "a gay effete bachelor" who used the device to secure his penis against his leg and diminish his "manly endowments" during the Victorian craze for crotch-cutting pants. Around 1842-43, at the age of twenty-five, Prince Albert installed a dressing ring in his penis. Gossip magazines proclaimed the dressing ring a Prince Albert. Doug Malloy learned about the P.A. while working as a professional scuba Diver. Two Swede divers wore P.A.s as a means of controlling the flow of urine into a "rubber urinal" so that they didn't foul their diving suits. After piercing his penis, Doug discovered the P.A. was more than functional, it provided him with "wonderful sensations".

In addition to sex, Doug claims other popular uses for the P.A. include:

1. Stretching the penis. Saddhu fakirs of South India hung weights on their P.A.s and stretched their penises to lengths of two and three feet. At this length, the penis is no longer functional. The fakirs wound the penis around their waists and displayed themselves for money. A more moderate approach used by a former Mr. Universe titlest gained him 1 1/2" and didn't impair his function.
2. Boosting confidence. Doug Malloy claims Mousilini had a Prince Albert so that he could fondle his penis through a hole in his pants pocket. IL Duce apparently fondled his P.A. to get a confidence boost, especially when he had to make important decisions.
3. Therapy. Doug boasts a therapeutic function for the P.A. - to cure obesity. Malloy claims obese men can divert their attention from food cravings by tugging or fondling their P.A.s.

I can never get an earing or a tattoo.

Tattoos look cool when your young, when you get older your skin turns wrinkley and it looks bad.

Earings, piercings, etc. no way. Don't flame my opinion and sorry if this is offensive, but in my opinion i think earrings are for girls only.

i have two ear piercings. I used to have a third as well as a tongue piercing but i took them out when i went to college. I also have two tattoos: a scorpion on my arm and a dragon around a sun on my upper back, plus i plan on getting a few more.

i think it's ok to get piercings or tattoos as long as you don't overdo it, and tattoos need to have some kind of meaning (yes mine do mean something). That way once you get old you wont be hating that girls name on ur arm or something like that.

i agree with the "dishwasher" comment from earlier

i know a guy who couldn't pay his rent, and at 33 had to move back in with mom and dad. strange? not really, except he still had hundreds of dollars for tatoos. tatoo or rent? why tatoo of course!

it's like tatoo people have this burning desire to belong to something, church didn't work, human companionship was a washout, career advancement? nah. how about getting a tatoo? of course! the comraderie of fellow tatooed washouts will ease my

ahaha excellent post notbob. I have often thought the same things about tattoo victims...

I would also like to know why people with tattoos always the same losers who smoke, eat mcdonalds and are always in front of me in the "10 items or less queue" with at least 15 items in their basket.

Anyone going for a tattoo should be legally oblidged to have "I am a retard" tattooed on their forehead, making them much easier to avoid in social situations.

If you are ever teetering on the brink of suicide but can't quite summon up the courage to take that final leap into the void, try listening to a conversation between two tattoo enthusiasts discussing their most recent abominations and their plans for further assault on their own bodies. The will to live will instantly drain from your body and your own death will come as welcome release.

I have no tats, no piercings. My wife has her belly button done.

On the agree side, my reasons for no piercings are strictly economical. I just wouldn't be able to wear them at the job I have now, nor would about %90 of other jobs out there hire you with visible tattoos/piercings.

I'll give Notbob and Grab a nod on people who do stupid shit, like get tats on hands, faces, necks. Places which cannot be covered outside of a starwars costume. Hi, I'm darth tatter. Just dumb. Whatever the idea of self expression it is, the first is "Hi, I can't get a job!"

However, well placed tattoos are each individuals choice. If other people can't see them outside of the beach, then you've probably placed them well enough to be a productive member of society.

The argument doesn't need to cover just tats and piercings. I've seen plent of fuckwits that won't shave a beard, or cut their hair. Less permanent modifications to permanent idiots.

Edit: Being the person who often runs the 10 items or less line, I can tell you grab, your half right. Half of the people who overdue it, are just complete morons. The other half are self important assholes who think the rules can make an exception for them, just because they feel like it. Strangely enough, they are usually the first to bitch about the person in front of them having too many items, and the first to bitch about not going through the line with too many items.

I'll take an asshole or a moron, but moronic assholes make me want to kill myself.

It's funny... notbob, I hadn't thought about that... how people ask "Where'd you get that done?"

The first question I always ask is "What does that mean?" or "Why that?" or something along those lines.

That's it in a nutshell. What does it mean in your eyes? What was going on when you got it?

I have 4, but they are blended as if two. The most significant (and first), are the two on my shoulder. One is a rose with music notes running across it.

After my daughter was born, I had "added" around it, the sun and a cloud above the rose, with a shooting star breaking through it. I then had her name tattooed in Chinese, to the right.

Tattoos are serious. Right, they don't come off. I thought about this fact for many years before getting them. I was sure of my decision. I had them put where they show only when I choose for them to show.

...

However, well placed tattoos are each individuals choice. If other people can't see them outside of the beach, then you've probably placed them well enough to be a productive member of society.

But I will never feel like a "retard" that eats at Mickey Dees (ick) or to paraphrase what GG said, trailer trash just because I see tatoos as an art (around for THOUSAND of years). Not as an "abomination."

I would also like to know why people with tattoos always the same losers who smoke, eat mcdonalds and and blah, blah, blah...

That is stereotyping and therefore...well to use your eloquent word, retarded.

MANY people with tattoos (that you can not see), make more money than those of you stereotyping us.

Yes. It's tue.

Wow.

Art is what it is to each person.

The process of scarification (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarification), scars are formed by cutting or branding the skin. There are many reasons why people may turn to scarification. Aesthetically, scarifications are usually more visible on darker skinned people than tattoos. Also, unlike tattoos, scarifications are a product of one's own body.

There are also religious and social reasons for scarification. According to some tribal belief in Africa, producing scars on newborn children helps preventing vision related illness. There may also be religious expressions used in the scarification process.

Scarification is not a precise art; there are many variables, such as skin type, depth of the cut, and how the wound is treated while healing, that make the outcome somewhat unpredictable.

The body creates the scar, not the artist; it is important to keep in mind that a method that works well on one person may not work so well on another. Also, the scars tend to spread a bit as they heal, so scarifications are usually relatively simple designs -- small details can easily get swallowed up in the healing process.

I understand scarification. I have just never seen a blond, FAIRRRRR skinned woman do it to that extent.

Probably hangs from meat hooks too. No wait. That would mess her design up...

And what was she drinking? Because I know the woman (Dragon Lady) that did mine (tats), even though she was next door to a bar (Fort Hood, here in TX), reFUSEd to tattoo anyone that had been drinking.

She said it caused people to hold their breathe (more) when the needle hit.

OMG Pooter LOVE IT! I have said for about 4 years now that I will have the monkey with the (belly button) asshole before I have grandkids. I think it'll be too damn funny for my grandkids to stick their finger in the monkey's ass. I know...I am weird.

Anyhow, to answer the original question I am inked. I have 3 tats and I have had my nose pierced, had a Monroe as well, and I have 7 holes in my ears and only use the first set.

On my left side (closer to the heart) I'm getting a memorial to my dad's passing, and I also want to get the word Scorpio on my foot with the "m"
