I am wondering if any of you folks have tried slimbrowser? It has been bragged up on screensavers, and I would like your views on it.

It does sound interesting.

I just read the article and dled it, plan to try it later, tho, have a dl going that I don't want to interrupt yet.

Whats the best way to install it?

I wouldn't want to lose my favs list or how I have my options set.

Thanx in advance.

I have not installed yet either, but thought some of the tec-heads here would have tried it before. I also have some downloads going, but intend to try it after a bit. This would make a good addition to the site, in my opinion. We could use more tests, and reviews on different software.

:devil Hunter I installed it a couple of days ago and have been using it and its very nice so far. The pop up killer built in works good and thus far I have had no problems with viewing any pages. I say install it and give it a whirl, I think you'll like it

Sorry about that Hunter. Here's more reviews:

I didn't use the popup killer, because I have stopzilla running
New Windows come in the form of tabs, you have a search engine of your choice in the toolbar, has a clean all trace feature,
you can hide the site your looking at so you can be quick with porn when the wife comes around, there is a built-in form tool, you have a proxy manager, you can password protect, and I can write 5 pages on how this kicks IEs ass.

Beauty, and thanks. If you folks wish, I will look around and see what other new, free software I can find to review. That is as time permits.

I just installed slimbrowser and all is very well.

Tabbed windows=great!!!

Its faster than IE, a definite plus:fire

Forget IE, its slimbrowser for me:fire :fire

At least, to me it does seem faster, I've never tried other browsers, so its just my opinion.

Cool, and it sure beats the hell out of, edited due to warez. We cant always have things run smooth, but if we work together this place can be made more interesting. We have great members, and i know we can all work on this. Thanks folks.

sorry to be the dissenting voice, but this isnt faster than IE, and there is a reason it looks and feels like IE. Thats because it uses the IE rendering engine. Rather than a substitute for IE it is really just a way of adding features to IE. Its very similar to crazy browser and myIE.

Im not saying that its a bad piece of software, just that it cant be considered a replacement for IE.

For me the popup stopper is worth it, but as i said this is a review, and grab_grab, all comments help. Do you have a better one to recommend? This is not a flame, but a question. We all need to work this way here. Or you might just have a few tweaks to the settings in IE to make things run better.

If i have to use IE then i use it with myIE which is kinda similar to this.

otherwise i use phoenix (now called mozillafirebird) which is a slimmed down version of mozilla, very easy on resources, extremely customizable and open source which is a bonus.

I used to use opera, but version 7 was a bridge too far in terms of resource usage and redundant features.

But yes, i agree that if you absolutely have to use internet explorer you should use something like slimbrowser or myIE to make use of tabbed browsing and a pop up stopper.

Thanks bud, and this will help out many here. I for one dont mind the political end of things, but when you use your knowledge to help it just makes it better for all of us. We are not closed minded, just doing things in due course.

Nice catch, Hunter. As grab_grab said this is a shell of IE and therefore is dependent on IE's engine. However, I would choose this along with MyIE over the actual IE. It just enhances the whole experience making it leaps and bounds better than the out of box IE package.

After using this for a couple hours, what I am liking is the search bar, the use of aliases, and the ability to hide. I also like the shortcuts drop down menu. An improvement it could make in the future is to have a utility bar like MyIE. It could utilize mouse gestures better, but it is an overall excellent product...........definitely a keeper next to MozillaFirebird and MyIE2. It has decent customization options.

By default, tabbed browsers have always completely shut down when pressing Alt-F4. Ideally, it would be nice if it would just exit out of that current window. If it were to do that, it would make this app that more feature filled.

good app, but like notbob said it's not independent from IE, so I wouldn't go waving that rebel flag over this or throwing any parades, but it definitely beats IE OOtB

Yes, it is definitely faster, I notice it, and it's obvious, so it's not like a hard-to-notice speed increase that nobody would really care about
