Of course there some new stuff at the box office, but there's still a lot of older stuff thats great to own.
Among my recently viewed movies are The Recruit, The 25th Hour, S1M0NE, Citizen X, Seven Samurai, Femme Fetale, American Psycho, The Transporter . . . . and I am somewhere in the 450 title range now . . and growing quickly.
Who has any recomendations, or rare titles that they like?
I'm itching to "run down to Blockbuster" and get me some new stuff.
What are your prize possessions?

Oops. Forgot to ask if you've seen either of those?

I'm knocking at least one star off Bandits, as they were tooo stupid to realize they were being played, and I would have pushed her butt out of a moving vehicle, but in the end, the all lived happily ever after.
Anyone like B movies? Anyone watch the scream queen movies of the 80's and 90's? Linnea Quigly?
Anyone ever see Parents with Randy Quaid? Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown? The Monster? Delicatessen?

I thoroughly enjoyed Moulin Rouge. I know it's sorta cheesy and they sing and stuff all the time, but I REALLY LIKED IT.
Requiem For a Dream, As Good as it Gets, Royal Tenenbaums, Trainspotting, Wonder Boys, Punch Drunk Love, Adaptation, The Land Before Time, Spirited Away, Donnie Darko, The Lion King.... and more I can't think of.
This (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/Bleeders-1083009/preview.php) is one of the WORST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN.

Igby Goes Down. Another one that didn't get much advertising, yet I found it to be a great movie.
And Krell, I don't keep them after I've seen them. Please don't tell me we are headed for divorce already because of that!

lmao you woudl THINK that Rutger Hauer could have saved a few pennies along the way, and not have to make movies of this caliber.
If you have the stomach for Requiem For a Dream and Trainspotting, your doing good. Requiem is a finely filmed, engrossing movie, but the ending is gut wrenching.
I have 2 copies of Spirited Away, one with subs, one w/o.
Did you see Princess Mononoke? Or how bout Whisper of the Heart? Another fine anime.

All Akira Kurosawa films are worth seeing - it's a pity that theres not many film makers like him around today.
If you enjoyed Hideo Nakata's 'Ringu', you have to see his new film 'Dark Water'.
It's a slow paced horror like ringu - explaining the story and creating the suspense.
Like ringu the last 25 minutes are as tense as hell!
Definitely the best horror since 'Ringu'

I saw RED PLANET!
Let me tell you that i hate that "new" yanki style of making movies.
Cool stories (like titanic, armagedon, red planet, etc) have the.... "love story" inside!!! i mean.. ok.. i love romantic movies.... but they are mixing the best action films with a love story..... i really hate that.

I just watched BIO-ZOMBIE
It was pretty funny, probaby my favorite zombie movie. The voice-overs were some of the best, and I laughed at several parts. If this movie was any worse, they would have had to sign Keanu Reeves for the part.
Watch it and you will know what I mean.
I read a review today that rated Ringu, above its american counterpart, The Ring. I agree.
Also, the new Terminator 3 with Kristanna Loken .... T-X, will have her rebirth scene from the future, completely nude!
Thats right, walkin down Rodeo drive butt-nekid. Thats 5'10" of butt-nekid I'm lookin forward to.
Oh, and the movie looks good too.

Spiral was different. And Bio-Zombie sounds interesting. Wings_of_Azrael--good call on A Clockwork Orange. Right up there with Barfly for memorable quotes and entertainment factor.
Along with Bladerunner...
Krell, do you know you're going up against T-3 in the Robot Wars thread?
Watched Platoon today, and I'm gonna tape Malcolm X this weekend. And if we can find a babysitter, Saturday night maybe we'll finally go see Reloaded.

You can't forget about the classic horror movies like Cannibal Holocaust, the Living Dead trilogy, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Last House On the Left.
As for newer movies, I just watched House of 1000 Corpses and 28 Days and they were both quite good.

Brain Damage is pretty funny.....and wierd, have you guys seen any of Peter Jacksons old films before Lord Of the Rings like Bad Taste etc.
O yeah and i saw both Ringu and The Ring. Ringu is definatly better, i didnt like what they done with the main ladys son and the her divorced husband. The only improvment in the american version is the face of the Sadako.

AUDITION
8:30pm
Early shows Saturday & Sunday at 4pm.

Sounds like fun... perhaps I will even go and see these in the theater.
Check out their blurb on VERSUS, "First-time writer/director Ryuhei Kitamura tears the proverbial roof off with this undead-Japanese-gangsters-battling-immortal-samurai-zombies barnburner! In a cursed forest that doubles as a portal to (and from) the afterlife, a white-knuckle splatterbattle decides the destiny of mankind. A stylishly violent heartstopping full-tilt action feature combining gore, action, gore, comedy and gore, VERSUS features enough bazooka blasts, mid-air swordfights and ventilated abdomens to have you in traction for months."
I must see this... zombies, gangsters and samurai... throw in hot chicks and this is the perfect movie.

DEAD OR ALIVE: FINAL
6:30pm
Early show Friday at 4:30pm.
AUDITION <<<-------------------------------- ! ! !
8:30pm
Early shows Saturday & Sunday at 4pm.
VERSUS
11pm
AUDITION is Miike’s best known feature and was picked as one of 2001’s top films in a poll of 40 critics. Deceptively innocent at first, the film follows Aoyama, a middle-aged widower with the desire to start dating again. Staging a false audition for a nonexistent film role, Aoyama falls for the demure actress Asami, a former ballerina with a suspicious past. Their courtship jaggedly veers from polite romance to psychotic nightmare, ultimately leading to a finale so disturbing that you’ll never want to date again. AUDITION is the ultimate work of jarring provocative cinema by the current master of the art.
“Miike is such a compelling filmmaker that he makes it hard to turn away from the unspeakable.” –Los Angeles Times
In Japanese with English subtitles.
…and watch for Takashi Miike's controversial unedited director's cut of ICHI THE KILLER kicking off our Summer calendar!!!

Apparently theres a remake of 'dawn of the dead' (Night of the Living Dead 2) in the pipeline.
That was my fav Living dead.
I'm not looking forward to T3. Seeing that neither James Cameron, and the other two actors in T2 didnt want anything to do with it.
The actress who played Sarah Connor (forgot her name) described the screenplay as 'souless' and refused to do it.
Can T3 compete with the Matrix sequels or lord of the rings type of blockbusters? I dunno
Whatever it turns out to be like i'll wait till it comes out on video.

I fear this remake... it will suck in comparison to the original... however, someday there will be a Dead IV, Romero has written the script and will make it when he has funding... I have heard that it is in the works (hoping).

The Outer Limits = a few dozen titles at a glance, and TFTC, the movies, like Bordello of Blood, which, without Angie Everheart would be even less useless.

May 23rd, 2003, 06:21 PM
I was a Tales from the Crypt HBO TV series junkie. I liked the Hitch Hiker series too. Never watched any TFTC movies, Corey Feildman scares me enough. I need to look other places I guess. ok here's one, Night Gallery, Rod serlings 70's show? Hmmm??
Krell
May 23rd, 2003, 06:32 PM
Yah I am also a big Tales fan, and Night Gallery was one of the scariest series ever. The music and imagery for the prgram is disturbing.
Youre not going to find too much in the way of these.
Yah The two Coreys are about as scary as the Olsen twins.
Anyone ever seen "Parents" or "Sisters"
How about "Alien Avengers" aka "Welcome to Planet Earth"
EXCELLENT
Three extraterrestrials leave their beautiful and peaceful planet to vacation on Earth. These blue blooded (literally) aliens look just like us, except that thay have extraordinary strength and are practically invincible. They are a family group, comprised of a set of parents, Charlie (George Wendt) and Rhonda (Shanna Reed), and their nubile, teenage daughter, Daphne (Anastasia Sakelaris). After landing in a depressed area, they rent rooms for an exhorbitant sum. They befriend their landlord, Joseph (Christopher M. Brown), a petty crook now trying to stay on the straight and narrow (lucky for him) by running his mother's boarding house. From there, mom and pop go on the prowl for bad guys. Charles Bronson in "Death Wish" has nothing on them!
This movie is outrageously funny, though somewhat macabre, as these civic minded aliens dispense their own unique brand of criminal justice. The portly George Wendt and the Betty Crockerish Shanna Reed are absolutely hilarious as they act out their vigilante fantasies on our planet. Their delight in doing so is infectious, and their appearance is a clever counterpoint to their actions. Anastasia Sakelaris is terrific as their lovely daughter. English not being her first language, her malapropisms add an additional deft, comedic touch. Christopher M. Brown capably plays the part of Joseph, the landlord who knows that his tenants are a bit off the mark but cannot quite put his finger on it. The only problem with this movie is that the production values are somewhat low. The aliens' space pod looks like it was made in someone's garage, so cheap and shoddy are the production values. Still, this is a movie well worth seeing, as it is just so darn funny.
