new and need help pls!

hello all! while I was very happy to have found this forum after spending some time browsing IM STILL CONFUSED :mellow
I received the following for my B-day (yesterday!)
HP PAVILION 764N DESKTOP PC 251-1500
Features Intel® Pentium® 4 processor–2.66GHz, 512MB DDR RAM, 120GB Ultra DMA hard drive, DVD+RW/CD-RW combo drive; 48x CD-ROM, NVIDIA® GrForce4™ MX440 graphics card with 128MB DDR S-DRAM video memory

Of course I am excited to have the DVD burner BUT.... I am at a complete loss as to how I use it
I have Kazaa lite already downloaded and have a movie (*** ****) downloaded to my shared file, Now can someone PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE :love HELP me step by step on how I make a DVD that I can view in my DVD player! ( the 1hooked to the TV or my X-Box)

How to use your DVD software - http://www.dvdrhelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=3;6

Pick the software you use....may be a bit different if it's branded by HP and packaged with the PC.

Before you author your DVD you need to convert the AVI file to a format it can understand...IE Mpeg2

So use this guide and it's tools to convert to mpeg2

Those two should get you through making a basic DVD.

If you wish to get into making 'whoa, that kicks ass!' DVD menus and all that...try some of these guides.

What is it exactly, ou are trying to do?

Burn a DVD?

Make a MPEG2?

Make a Divx?

What!

If you are looking for a good DVD Burning tool, try DVDXCopy, but remember there are other DVD burning prghrams, too.

I want to be able to use the bundled dvd burner and software (that came w/my computer) to make a dvd that I can use in my reg dvd player or even my X-Box? hope that cleared it up Thanks


PS when I clicked on the link that was sent to my inbox for thread tracking I ended up with ALMOST 100 POPUPS NOT GOOD I had to bomb my com and do a restart geeesh I hate it when that happens! :devil

if you downloaded a movie it probably isn't worth burning onto a DVD. Try using a cdr or cdrw and create a vcd or svcd. most DVD players will play them.
