I just downloaded and ran Gladiator. According to it, I have 153 runtime packers, 2 runtime packed files. All of my p2p apps have them, foobar 2000 is polluted with them. What in the hell is this? How worried do I need to be??:fire :fire :fire

Isn't it a spyware checker?
If it's an antivirus prog, remove the virusses.
If it's a spyware checker, remove the prog, remove the spyware,
and get a clean version of the prog.

I heard foobar is full of spyware.
Kazaa and a LOT of other p2p progs are full of spyware too.

Nope, it only checks for viruses. Did you read GAV's FAQ on its homepage.

Foobar is in no way spyware. I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware Blocker, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and bdkiller16 that can attest to that. Whomever told you it was spyware was obviously misinformed.

I looked through the GAV forum and came across that. It seems to answer your question fairly well. If you still have specific questions regarding individual packers, it would be wise to post on that forum. Otherwise, the general consensus has an attitude of lax. But don't take my word for it. If something looks suspicious and doesn't add up, please ask another question.

There's some common packers that many regularly deal with.

I hope that sufficiently answered your question. Like I said, if you have a more specific question, please feel free to ask. You can never be too sure.

"PACKED is the first step to look into file areas that are not the normal files that you are accustom to seeing .These files are coded in such a way they are PACKED to save space and other times to help the programmer. One of those is that ACTIVE SCAN folder from Panda you displayed..What GAV does is unpack these areas and files without executing them to see if they contain malicious code.

That is what you are seeing it is nothing to worry about...now if they did have malicious code ..then GAV would take it one step further and REPORT to you that one IS a problem. That I see did not happen. So we are just keeping track of them all..also letting you know.

Some will be runtime and others archive...if any of them are also infected..you will be the first to know." - Name_Game

I looked into it and by all indications this guy seems to be a knowledgable, kind, and respectable person over there. Read that whole thread to get the full effect however. There are many developers who can further help you if you need any.

Yes, I know foobar is clean. All of my p2p apps are also. Gladiator showed no virus. I also use Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D on a regular basis. I have never heard of this runtime packer thing, it didn't sound good. I didn't know if this was something to worry about or not. Your information was very helpful and I thank you for it! :wings :wings
