here is what i want to do: "transfer" some music from my mp3 player to an XP laptop. this is what it says when i try to do it: "this file is copyrighted", and it refuses to do the transfer. from what i remember, i could easily upload files to my win 2k laptop, so im kind of suspecting xp has some DRM thing going on...

i have a samsung baby yepp 32mb mp3 player, made and bought in 2001 (so before drm could have got in, right?). the drivers are nice basic ones that work perfectly otherwise...

i will install 2000 soon (but having 2 OSs on 1 HD is always troublesome (i have to have xp too).

ps mod: please dont delete this, i need as much help as poss...

i would try using the win2k program/drivers first, using compatibility mode.

Try changing the ID3-tag copyright flag to no, or

Try using a program called Freeme if its DRM protected

i dunno if he can edit the id3 tags once the songs are on his player..

if it's the transfer software, you might be able to download a hacked version that bypasses this.

... I thought he was trying to transfer from 1 puter to another oops.

Does your mp3 player have a removable flash card or do u upload by usb cable?
If you can take out the flash card do you have a reader for it?
Will it read the files like a disk drive ( like a floppy ) ? Sorry I'm getting tired and this starting to not make sense to me.

Does the lap recognize the player if you go into "my computer"?

If so see i you can explore and then copy the files you are trying to tranfer.

Open your Windows Media player.
From the Tools menu select Options.
Click on the "Copy Music" tab and uncheck "Copy Protect Music"
Also go to the "Privacy" tab and uncheck " aqcuire licences automatically for protected content.
These features are enabled by default when you install the new media player. Very sneaky.
