So, did you go to the Cinerama?
I love that theater... Nothing is better than digital projector + big-ass screen.

Lowes Cineplex on Aurora. It was doable. They dont have the best sound system there.
yah I want to see The Matrix on that digital screen.

You're right. That's an example of an uneducated opinion.

I just got back from the theatres. It was awesome! A lot better than the first one, they should just "delete" the first movie... it was totally pointless compared to this one.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
Nightcrawler was by far the best character. Not only in special effects, but in acting as well. Storm (Halle Berry) dissapointed me. I want to hear "Storm! Mistress of the Elements!" and see some dramatic acting, she just walks around and lights up her eyes like one of those bimbo witches from that show "Charmed". Jean Grey made up for it though, she was awesome. Wolverine suprised me... actually killed people...
The ending was suprising. Jean Grey "dies". However, X-Men fans non-newbies like me know she'll turn into the Pheonix. However, how will they handle that? The entire Pheonix thing is pretty much in space. And it's a horriably complex story (including Jean Grey's daughter in the future etc. etc.). I hope they can pull that off.
Few mistakes I noticed... Colossus was in the movie, yet he didn't speak Russian (and wasen't in Russia!). And the timeline is all screwed up (or at least, compared to the comic book and TV Cartoon)... Pheonix already? Yet where is Gambit? And Rouge has yet to take Marvel's powers yet..
Overall, great movie. Can't wait to see X3.

I was thinking about seeing it next week sometime down at the Cinerama before the Matrix Reloaded takes over the screen... the Oak Tree is okay... easier than going downtown or to Lynnwood (and the U-District rarely has anything but art-flicks--except at the god-awful Metro--only good for a foreign film or something with no explosions). It is the closest to me so I have gone there a few times.
I wonder if the Matrix would really be better at the IMAX than the Cinerama... The IMAX is tall, but it cuts off the sides. The Cinerama is longer and both have digital projectors... I just wish that they had "film geek night" when they would crank the volume since the people that complain aren't there (I hate quiet movies and the people that still complain).

I seen the first one in theaters, it wasn't that good. Maybe this one will be better than the first though. It is supposed to have more "characters".

Wingnut....
They don't cut anything in the DMR process.
What they do is take the full original negative and work with that...
So what you see as "widescreen" in a normal theater is already cropped. What you see on an IMAX screen is actually more....
If you've ever seen Apollo 13 in IMAX you'd get what I mean...the bottom and top actually show 'new' stuff you never saw on the DVD or in it's theatrical release.
In place of a pair of 'jugs' being cut off in AP 13 you see them...you see feet and the stuff above heads. It's actually better IMHO.
Now with the matrix....they'd have to either redo some of the special effects to fill the screen or if they thought ahead or calculated for a full frame shot and did the bullet time stuff from top to bottom they wouldn't have to.
I can also attest that the test scenes from The Matrix BLOW everything else away. The scene where he wakes up in the pod is extremely disgusting on the big screen....very crisp considering it's been blown up.
Basically what they're trying to do is pull you into the movie rather then seeing 'black' and curtains they want you to feel like everything around your field of vision is alive and kicking. Spiderman blew me away with it's test scenes....you actually feel like your flying along with 'em even from a booth port window. And the sound kicks ass...it's being kicked off a DFP which kicks out a perfect digital copy of the studio track rather then a dumbed down AC3 encoded track on disc like you see in a normal theater.
In short..if they run Reloaded in an IMAX near you...GO see it. While it may not be a super clean picture...(I've know lazy guys who don't clean the lens every show like I do...) but it's sure to kick your butt. : )
Edit: I hope they do X2...they already are gonna do X1. And...to make it clear...nothing is cropped...you get the full widescreen frame plus some extra on top and bottom to make it fill the whole screen.

I could see this as being correct... I have seen programs about people shooting films and noticed that the full CRT is used for the shot and there is a portion that is shown that is the "widescreen format."
I watched "full metal jacket" on dvd a while back and discovered that Kubrick's films were in the videos in this manner and that they just cropped the top and bottom for the theatrical release. I went and saw "the Lion King" (okay for a Disney movie) at the SuperImax downtown and was impressed, but the edges were most definitely cut off of the cartoon (they wouldn't want to animate too much). It makes sense that other films would actually be in this larger format.
Does the Imax that you project at have a digital projector? I know the one in Seattle does and it is very crisp (Boeing and Paul Allen like these digital projectors).

Yes....I bugged the hell outta them till they gave me a budget for a full system. I could only pick up a cheaper 4 lamp digital projector though. The one you viewed was probably a 130 thousand dollar DLP projector....it uses a normal Xenon lamp rather then my cheap 4 lamp model.
I hope they hurry up and give me enough to install a DLP (Digital Light Projector) system....we could be playing all sorts of stuff in between shows with it that would make people crap themselves.
And yes...I ran Lion King it was bright and all but they had to work with what they had. So it wasn't had 'big' as I would have hoped for view wise. If you have a copy of T2 Special Edition check out the supplemental disc. It has a bit explaining how they do pan an scan and wide screen. Shows a full frame from part of the movie. That's what they use so you get all this 'fluff' image to feast your eyes on. : )
Er...if you meant do we run the IMAX off a digital projector the answer is no. Even the DLP can't project a image that big and still be super crisp to the point where you can see single hairs on a persons head. The video protector I have now will fill maybe 1/4th of the screen and still be crisp...after that it either bottoms out or gets fuzzy with a shorter throw lens. We'd be getting cussed out if we tried to sell a 12-14 buck IMAX show and gave them a DVD off that...lol

Gonna go see X2 some night this week--was going to go this weekend but went to see Ministry Friday night (Fucking awesome wall of sound performance by Alien Jourgensen and the boys--everyone go to that too if you get the chance) and Saturday night was spent moving/backing up files and cooking up an OS for the new 40 gig hard-drive for M5, my ever faithful Gateway Solo 2500 laptop (replaced the 4gig drive it came with out of the box almost 4 years ago), and took advantage of my friend's LAN to dl tons of new mp3's th christen the new hard drive.
Saw a really good biography channel on Patrick Stewart a couple of days ago, and it reminded me this was coming out. I think this will be even better than the first one, since they won't have to spend so much time on backstory and character explanation hoohah. Go Wolverine!

yea, i kindda think that candy-floss like x-men are a nice way to keep everybody dumb and enthralled by what are, in the end, pretty graphics. films like Fight Club, the Matrix and, yes, American Beauty actually contain things that you will think about for more than the 90 mins you sit immobile in front of the screen.
im sorry if someone took offence at my opinion. now, be a good American and go watch XXX again.

UBER-RAT, i completly agree but doesnt mean that xmen isnt a good film to watch, i saw it a couple of days ago and its deffinatly worth seeing even if its only action driven.
My friends Dad classifies films in here in the uk and has seen reloaded he says the actions good but they are trying to hard to make the film fit into the catogories of films UBER-RAT suggested examples of (Fight Club,American Beauty etc). But im still going to see because the actions apparently amazing
