question on CD burning

I know, not essentially P2P, but an offshoot of it. How come all the files are currently taking up 750 mbs of space when my burn cd only has 700mbs? I have two files that are 424 mbs eah, but when I try to burn using nero to a vcd format it shrinks them both to 375 (=750 mbs of one cd), so there only 50mbs over size. I don't want to burn them to separate CDs (wasteful) and would like to get them on one disc. Is there a way, or am I doomed to wasting my money?

vcds are burned in a different mode to data. you can burn 800mb to an 80min cd.

currently on a euro a CD (one cut). Will look around for cheaper. And before you say, buy over the net, i don't have a credit card.

if you're paying as much as one euro a cd, you're mad.

In the uk, you can get pretty much the best cds you can buy, Verbatim DataLifePlus, for less than 25p/disc, and cheaper ones (cheap ritek dye discs) for 15p each.

Video file can be an mpg;avi or anything...but while burning a VCD .dat format is used........hence the shrinkage........

and try UleadDVD movie factory.....its pretty good, u can make more than 1 thumbnail for 1 video file, aliowing u to automatically jump to a desired length, not available in nero!!

As you're paying in Euros, I'm guessing youre in Europe (where did I get that idea from?!), and probably in a major city? You should be able to get spindles at a rate of about €10 for 25 CDs. Shop around, generally go to the big stores.

I don't know where you live, but here in the Netherlands it's 4,99 euro for a 10 pack 700mb cd's at the Lidl. At the Aldi it's 9,98 for 20 cd's. In germany it's 3,99 for a 10 pack at the Lidl. Lidl and Aldi are the cheapest stores. If you want 800mb cd's goto Dixons there you have a 10 pack 800mb cd's for 9,95.

And that's as cheap as it get's...

PS. You can easily fit 740mb on a 700mb CD using overburn.

@kyle: then it would't play back as a vcd, and you'd fit far less than 800mb of data on, because you'd be burning in mode1 *and* mpeg-1 is compressed anyway, and would barely compress.

@andy_trn: not all cds/cdrw drives will overburn.

and as i already explained, and 80min cd will hold 800mb of mpeg-1 compliant video.

dixons sux u can get cdrs a fraction of there prces at an independent vendor or a computer fair i paid £15 for 100 48x cdrs at a pc fair last week

I don't go to PC fairs, they cost like 10 euro (?) entry. No thanks. I don't really care but I think 4,99 is cheap enough. My point was not to pay 10 euro for 10 cd's.

And I only shop online if I buy new parts for my computer.

I'm assuming that your talking about cue/bin files. Even though it says the size is over 700 megs, when it burns it will fit since a bin file is an image of a cd and therefore can't be bigger than a cd.

no, it's not .cue and .bin... it's two mpeg-1 files.
